Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: waltzing with bears From: Joe Offer Date: 05 Oct 99 - 08:13 PM Hi, Hummingbird - of course, you know that the lyrics from the database are here (click). Chords from Rise Up Singing are: G - C G / D - - G / G - C G / C G D G (chorus) / " / D - G - / " / C G C G / C G D G I hope that notation make sense to you. A dash following a chord means to repeat the previous chord again. An empty space between two slashes means to repeat the previous chord group again. Quotation marks mean same as the chords directly above. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: waltzing with bears From: Songster Bob Date: 11 Oct 99 - 01:16 AM I got tired of hearing the song some time ago (hmmm... we still lived in Virginia, and we moved here to Maryland in 1990, so it's ten years at least), so one day I was working around the house and came up with this: My Uncle Walter's not right in the head; He's been that way all his life, my Momma said. It's not that he's violent, or falls down the stairs, It's just he goes waltzing, waltzing with bears. I makes a good first verse, functioning as an intro. And it lets you sneak up on folk who dislike the original, 'cause they won't be sure it's "WWB" you're starting until the second verse. Bob Clayton |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: On a mountain / Dancing Bears From: GUEST,CarolC Date: 26 Jul 00 - 08:18 AM There is a song called "Waltzing With Bears", only it's about Uncle Walter. I think there is more than one version out there, but I have access to at least one of them. It's in a song book that we use in jam sessions around here. I don't have the title right now, but I can get it for you later. Check the forum again sometime in the next day or so. Here is the requests Carol is answering. I moved Carol's answer and other "bear" messages from the other thread. -Joe Offer- Thread #23699 Message #264866 Posted By: GUEST,Sean Mac Ruaraidh 26-Jul-00 - 06:52 AM Thread Name: Lyr/Chords Req: On a mountain / Dancing Bears Subject: On a mountain / Dancing Bears
Hi, |
Subject: Lyr Add: WALTZING WITH BEARS From: GUEST,Sean Mac Ruaraidh Date: 26 Jul 00 - 08:40 AM Thanks for the tip - maybe this is the one - I wonder where my Dad would have heard this? Verse 1 I went upstairs in the middle of the night, I tiptoed in and I turned on the light, And to my surprise, there was no one in sight, My Uncle Walter goes waltzing at night! Chorus He goes wa-wa-wa-wa, wa-waltzing with bears, Raggy bears, shaggy bears, baggy bears too. There's nothing on earth Uncle Walter won't do, So he can go waltzing, wa-wa-wa-waltzing, So he can go waltzing, waltzing with bears! Verse 2 I gave Uncle Walter a new coat to wear, When he came home, he was covered with hair, And lately I've noticed several new tears, I'm sure Uncle Walter goes waltzing with bears! [Repeat Chorus] Verse 3 We told Uncle Walter that he should be good, And do all the things that we said he should, But I know that he'd rather be out in the wood, I'm afraid we might lose Uncle Walter for good! [Repeat Chorus] Verse 4 We begged and we pleaded, "Oh please won't you stay!" We managed to keep him at home for a day, But the bears all barged in, and they took him away! Now he's waltzing with pandas, and he can't understand us, And the bears all demand at least one dance a day! [Repeat Chorus] |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: On a mountain / Dancing Bears From: CarolC Date: 26 Jul 00 - 10:17 AM Those lyrics (Waltzing With Bears) sound about right. The book I have is called "Rise Up Singing" by Peter Blood and Annie Patterson (A Sing Out Publication - Sing Out Corporation, PO Box 5253, Bethlehem, PA 18015-0253 (215)-865-5366 ISBN 09626704-7-2) According to the book, the song was originally written by Dr. Seuss and Eugene Poddany and published by Random House, Inc. (1967) The original title was "My Uncle Walter Waltzes With Bears" and it appeared in the "Cat in the Hat Songbook". The adaptation in the Rise Up Singing Songbook is being called an original composition by Dale Marxen (1986), Tomorrow Music PO Box 165, Madison, WI 53701. It's a great song, especially for me because I have an Uncle Walter who is a bit eccentric and who might be the sort who would waltz with bears. |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: On a mountain / Dancing Bears From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 26 Jul 00 - 10:44 AM A "Digitrad and Forum Search" for Waltzing with Bears brings up one DT entry and quite a lot of references in the Forum. The song has also been discussed quite a bit on the newsgroups, too; a search at Dejacom's Usenet Discussion Service will find you a number of variant lyrics. |
