Subject: RE: Favourite all time youtube performances From: rich-joy Date: 25 May 20 - 09:13 AM Only just got to listen to these offerings! Some good stuff there, including some artists I'd not heard of - and thank you, Peter Laban, for your post on 18May2018, which introduced me to the wondrous world of Rushad Eggleston, haha!!! I don't have a "favourite all time youtube performance" - SOOOO much good music in the world, it's just too hard to choose. HOWEVER, here is a track that has recently caught me by surprise, coz I find myself listening to it at least every few days. It's by the Birmingham (UK) a cappella harmony group "Sons of Pitches" and they cover JP Cooper & Stormzy's "Momma's Prayers" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Er2qkl9CI7k&list=PLXpHBAJB6ElbPM2tKHzar5I0i5QBxtHcz Of course it won't be everyone's cup-of-tea, but it moves me! Cheers, R-J |

Subject: RE: Favourite all time youtube performances From: JHW Date: 15 Sep 19 - 05:39 AM Saw rhe Inverary band march but as ever these days there's people with phones trying to film it. Hence such you tubes I guess. I can manage without a sea of little screens in front of what's happening. Gave up on the Edinburgh Fireworks concert. |

Subject: RE: Favourite all time youtube performances From: Rob Naylor Date: 14 May 18 - 06:08 AM And this one, showing off Ian Chisholm's skills both as a luthier and a guitarist, with the added bonus of a couple of tunes from Will fly thrown in at the end. Close to my heart as I now own this lovely instrument: Ia Chisholm and Will Fly Demonstrate Guitar No 30 |

Subject: RE: Favourite all time youtube performances From: Raggytash Date: 13 May 18 - 04:49 AM I was lucky enough a couple of years ago to see the Kilfenora Ceili Band live. Part way through the show they played the track on the link below ............ simply astonishing !! Smooth Criminal About 53 seconds in it gets interesting !! |
Subject: RE: Favourite all time youtube performances From: Thompson Date: 13 May 18 - 04:39 AM Don't know that I can find it, but there was one around the year 2000 or 2005 of a Canadian singing Un Canadien Errant in his bedroom, going away and changing clothes mid-verse, and finally coming back with an enormous melodeon and continuing… |
Subject: RE: Favourite all time youtube performances From: GUEST,Ake Date: 13 May 18 - 04:11 AM Sorry Gordon, I've been a member so bloody long that I keep forgetting I have to sign in nowadays. |
Subject: RE: Favourite all time youtube performances From: GUEST Date: 13 May 18 - 04:08 AM Gordon Jackson......never seen that marvellous performance! Thanks a million, how great to see the REAL enjoyment and even love on the faces of the audience......great stuff indeed. |
Subject: RE: Favourite all time youtube performances From: GUEST,Peter Laban Date: 13 May 18 - 04:05 AM Shit, that (above) misfired. I'll try again. Fluffy Arabian Cat Disease proves a persistent earworm after hearing it at a gig (with concertina player Cormac Begley) yesterday. I am always moved by her singing either Eithne Ni Uallachain - Babóg na Bealtaine or The Turn of the Road will have to do here. Darkness into light! Could mention more but will look up the links later. |
Subject: RE: Favourite all time youtube performances From: GUEST,Akenaton Date: 13 May 18 - 03:59 AM Some nice comments and a nice performance from Will. That's the thing about folk music it does create a bond between performer and audience, and also between performers, as can be seen in many of these videos. This music touches and inspires our emotional side more than any other with the exception perhaps of classical music. |
Subject: RE: Favourite all time youtube performances From: Harry Rivers Date: 13 May 18 - 03:31 AM Will, I came across your video of Midnight on the Water when I was learning to play it. I must confess that I occasionally ruin your performance by accompanying you on my fiddle (that's something you will never have to suffer) but most times I just sit and listen. It is lovely; to my ears, nigh-on perfect. And that smile at the end? Thank you! Harry |
Subject: RE: Favourite all time youtube performances From: GUEST,Guest from Sanity Date: 13 May 18 - 02:34 AM 'Midnight on the Water'...very nice, Will!!....very nice. GfS |

Subject: RE: Favourite all time youtube performances From: GUEST Date: 10 May 18 - 01:39 PM Tony is the God of Irish traditional music in my view Stu. There is a lovely documentary on the tube which explores his views on the music......a bulwark against creeping fusion and dilution. Gettin' back to American music, one of my favourite writers and performers is Iris Dement, this song is a heartbreaker and a stern warning to the elites social and political. easy's gettin harder every day. |
Subject: RE: Favourite all time youtube performances From: GUEST,Stu Date: 10 May 18 - 12:48 PM Love the Noel Hill track that Ake posted at the top of the thread. When I saw the thread title I had no doubt what I was going to post. It was either Joe Cooley or this chap, a close friend of Noel Hill's: Tony McMahon - Ships are Sailing and Toss the Feathers |
Subject: RE: Favourite all time youtube performances From: GUEST,kenny Date: 10 May 18 - 06:59 AM Thanks for that Ake. I was delighted when Inverary won the Worlds, a great achievement for a band only 13 years old. |

Subject: RE: Favourite all time youtube performances From: GUEST Date: 10 May 18 - 06:23 AM Lovely grub Kenny...we have the 2017 word champions just a couple of miles from where I live, I'll post their victory March with Stuart Liddell's mum carrying the trophy. She was in my class at school and she was Roddy MacCallum's daughter Agnes. Roddy was the Duke of Argyll's official piper, the MacCallums were a famous piping famiy. |
Subject: RE: Favourite all time youtube performances From: Dave the Gnome Date: 10 May 18 - 04:49 AM I don't believe some of the sound effects are real :-) But this version of Ievan Polkka by The Lumberjack Band is now a favourite. I came across it recently. For those who want to know how I came across it, I was looking for the version made famous by Loituma. Enjoy. |

Subject: RE: Favourite all time youtube performances From: GUEST,Mark Bluemel Date: 10 May 18 - 04:08 AM I've mentioned Josh Turner before - here's a lovely piece of work, but only folk in as much as he ain't a horse... You have been warned (There's plenty of more folky/roots stuff on his YouTube channel). |
Subject: RE: Favourite all time youtube performances From: Gordon Jackson Date: 10 May 18 - 02:50 AM Thought by many (including me) to be the greatest Irish fiddle player: Kevin Burke. So, what do we have here? A song! Mrs Gilhooley's Party And look at the equally great Paddy Keenan looking like he was sculpted from granite just for this song. Gordon |
Subject: RE: Favourite all time youtube performances From: Allan Conn Date: 10 May 18 - 02:40 AM There are actually a good selection of Youtube performances and whole series of them like the Tiny Desk Concerts; Songs From The Shed Sessions and Narrowboat Sessions. Plus lots of individual performances from especially younger performers. Here are two that always brighten up my day I always think this live performance is better than Paulo's official video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twuzki0ZpDo And if you're feeling down the sheer exuberance of this is sure to lift the mood https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kb2uciHpe4U Oh and Percolatin Blues for a bit of New Orleans fun https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfuHwPtVQOc |
