Like Terry I'm always fringe too, but do buy tickets for the concerts I want to see and always contribute whatever I can afford on a daily basis to the collecting tins, thus in my small way helping to keep Sidmouth and, I hope, the spirit of Sidmouth alive. See you all in The Bedford and elsewhere (God willing of course)

Yes, Terry, but there are still people who work as stewards all week for a free tichet but still only do the fringe events. We do it for the camp site and to not have to use the car following an evening in The Newt!!

Sidmouth is a classic example of something that has developed to the point that it is impossible for any one organisation to do HALF of what some people want !
And people like me who ONLY do the fringe dont really help the Festival at all , though the festival would certainly not be the same without the fringe .

Unfortunately, Tattie Bogle, we have to balance best value for the customer with making the festival pay for itself. This certainly seems the fairest system: we keep the season ticket as cost-effective as possible, and provide a Ham Evening Season on top, ticket which effectively cuts the cost of attending all the Ham evening concerts in half. If you don't want to attend all of the Ham evening concerts, you still get a discount on individual concerts.

It's as flexible as possible so that people can buy the combination of tickets that best suits them. To be frank, we could not offer what we offer (something like 700 events over 8 days) any more cheaply, and it seems unfair to ask people who aren't so bothered about the Ham in the evening to subsidise the people who want to attend every concert there.

Tattie Bogle, I bought a season ticket for my first Sidmouth a few years ago, and I was only there for four days. I still reckon I got better value than I would have done from individual tickets.

If you're going to attend a dozen or more events over the course of the week, the ticket has pretty much paid for itself.

One of the difficulties of deciding to buy season ticket or not (if you can afford it) is working out the economics of it, as they don't tell you the price of buying for individual concerts, nor the full range of events available, so you can't work out how much you might have spent as a PAYG attender.
With 10 minutes before the midnight deadline, I did eventually succumb to the offer!

I found that the Sidmouth site kept rejecting our applications too. Turns out it didn't like the browser I was using Google Chrome. So I went in on IE and had no problem. Received an email confirmation immediately.

I tried to send an email to the address for the stewards' organisers and it kept being returned undelivered. I had an automatic acknowledgement back in February but no request for a photo or any other communication.

P le C, VT and LL, Dilligaf and I applied online within 30 seconds of each other (I completed the app forms side by side) - She had conformation the next morning, whilst a month later, I don't know. Oh well, fingers crossed!!

Less than 24 hrs to decide if I want a season ticket or not: better look at the programme again, but may opt for PAYG, as I also enjoy the Middle Bar and other sessions.

I should say that Sidmouth is only too expensive for us this year (we had my daughter over at Christmas so money to play with is scarce). Cost won't be a problem in future if we find we like Sidmouth. We will save for it specifically. And by all accounts from my Kentish friends, it is one that is NOT to be missed.

The offer's much apopreciated Chris, but basically the car is fine.

Ford Scorpios are as rare as hens' teeth now, and some stupid twerp i n Tesco's car park took out the left headlamp, and crushed the glassfibre bumper.

New Headlamp from Ford £196.50
New bumper from Ford (special order) £600 or thereabouts
Plus one tyre, rated for 146mph top speed (I never do more than about 80, but they won't allow lower spec in MOT) £75 approx
Plus MOT £53.50 ast time. God knows what next time.

Takes more than a year to save that kind of dosh, so I'm looking for second hand parts. Back to the Hen's teeth.

Ho Hum.

The upside is they only sold 50,000, so anytime soon the survivors will start to appreciate in value. Qualifies as a classic after this April.

CRB checks now last for 3 years, so I suspect a 2008 one will last through to 2011.

The festival has CRBs carried out as required - but it doesn't cost us that much because there is a substantially reduced charge for non-paid members of staff.

There are lots of ways to enjoy the festival: individual event tickets, weekend tickets, day tickets, and a workshop series pass that gives 5 for the price of 4. If you buy a day or a weekend pass, you can stay on the festival campsite on those days - or the Supporter's Club also lets you buy passes for the official campsite (there's a bus service from the campsite into town, which is handy).

I had a CRB check in 2008 when I was still a Governor and working for Governor Services. I think they have to be re-upped every year to 18 months though. At £65 a pop it can get expensive. Can't wait for the International Safeguarding Authority to get its finger out. The CRB check won't need to be done yearly any more.

All is not lost... Just found out if we don't get steward jobs that we can still go and do stuff. Maybe a weekend pass with camping at alternate site.

Mostly I want to do sessions and a few concerts which maybe I can pay for separately with Supporters pass. Lots of options.

We will be there at some point and in some capacity. Thanks all.

Re the season ticket cost: Sidmouth has over 600 events to choose from, but we do our best keep the season ticket price as competitive as possible. It compares very favourably with other festivals when you consider they only run for the weekend (and check out our very competitive weekend tickets!). But Tam, we always need more stewards, so if that's an option which means you can enjoy the festival for the first time, we'll look forward to seeing you! There are craft activities for kids every day. Philippa, who runs the children's festival, has specific stewards who are CRB checked, so if this is something you'd be interested in, it's best to put the request in asap.

I think we have decided that based on all the costs, we can only do this if we can steward. The alternate camp site with season tickets and random evening Ham concerts is just too expensive.

Tam, the season ticket includes all events except the evening concerts in the Ham. You can get into the other Ham events (two concerts per day), and lots of other evening events, on the regular season ticket. You can also buy discounted individual Ham evening concert tickets for specific events if you buy a season ticket.

Tam... As far as I am aware you can camp as long as you join the supporters club. I understand that caravan pitches are few, so quite understand why you can't stay for weekeend only. The Barden is the expert on the subject.

How many stewards do they need at one time? Are there any activities for kids on the camp ground? I would love to work with kids on crafting projects in the mornings, if there is anything like that going. Certainly have enough experience at it. Just don't know what is on offer as far as stewarding goes.

Well... I tried to submit the steward applications several times and it keeps generating database errors.

any suggestions?

Tam - volunteer for the Manor Pavillion with Val and I. It would be a gentle intro into stewarding. Trust me - you will have enough energy to do both - Sidmouth is like a drug! You work AND play and it just goes SO quick. You will meet loads of old friends and make many others!

Val and I have our accomodation already booked. Val has confermation that she is stewarding and I am waiting for mine.

Can't wait to get back to the best festival of the year!!!

I need some more information. Just found out that we cannot caravan there on a weekend ticket.

So now we are looking at full week. But from what I can determine the full week adult pass does not include the Ham season. So we pay £148 per adult for any shows happening outside the Ham?

Blast... this is going to be so expensive. It will mean we have to give other festivals a miss.

I have been told I should become a steward (up to 5 hours work a day) but I don't think I have that much energy to give to both stewarding and having fun.

Sigh.... I don't know what to do.

I'll be there, in my usual haunts, although we'll be taking the caravan for the first time this year as by the time the festival starts I'll be a pensioner, and hotel as no longer an option, but beer still is :-)

It is because of the hike of £45.00 per person, plus adult ticket will be required for Ben, that we aren't going to Broadstairs. Even with the petrol it will still be cheaper. We'll be on the fringe too, but I have bought evening concert tickets.

I'm afraid I can't afford it any more. It costs me so much in fuel, if I take my caravan. If I go by coach, it costs so much for accommodation.
It's a shame, as I love Sidmouth dearly.
