How terrible. Met Colin in the US with the Shellbacks a few years back and then saw him again the following year when I was in England. Hard to believe and I'm most saddened. Condolences to his family.

So it IS true then.
OK, it must be, but I still can't accept it.
Sh***.

We've lost more than a few "good guys" to the grim reaper of late I know, but as far as ColK's concerned, well a nicer, more genuine, more big-hearted, more fair-minded, more modest and unassuming, more helpful, truly good guy I've yet to meet anywhere on the (UK) folk scene. Col will be missed big time, no question.

If I could only reach a massive hug up there to him...

Sincerest condolences to all Col's family and his many many friends from me 'n' th' lass.

MM

Just read this terrible news. From Fylde we shall forward the proceeds from the PD to his mum to use as she wishes in his honour

Terrible news. We saw him only recently on his usual stewarding pitch at the Whitby Metropole, cheerful, informative and helful as ever. This is hard to take in. We'll miss him.

Surprising and saddening news. I hadn't seen Col for a while but will miss his ever-cheerful disposition at festivals.

Hiya
My Dad's at Fylde and has just rung me to tell me. Utter shock and disbelief.

Colin should have been at Fylde as usual but Maurice and Ilene (you'll know them if uve met them) had pitched Colin's tent for him and were concerned when he didn't show up and his mobile was going straight to answer phone. Concerned, they spoke to Graham Langhorne (dep Chief Steward) who tried to contact Colin but was informed that he'd been found dead in bed on Friday morning, either by a friend or his mother, not certain which.

If I get any more details I'll keep u posted. Thats as much as we know at the moment.

So many happy memories of one of lifes genuinely nice blokes. A great big man with a big heart, always ready with a hug and some dry humour. I just can't believe it. It just wont be the same without him.

Just hope we can all have a bloody good sing at the funeral (no details yet im afraid) and give him a good send off. Hopefully quite a few of Colin's fellow Shellback's will be there...

:'(

Jenny Briggs (Keith Briggs' daughter)

I will miss my good friend. I know how fragile life can be and how quickly it can be gone. Colin will live on though in my memories of his happy smile and generous nature. Best wishes to his family and friends.

Mike

We wil miss Colin hugely. His happy demenour and hard work, mostly behind the scenes at folk festivals, will be greatly missed.

And not forgetting his singing in the Shellbacks. He was also a honorable member of the Wareham Whalers joining us on a number of occasions when he stayed with Lin and myself in Dorset.

RIP Colin
