But no one ever expected the COVID inquisition!

Well sure exceptional people do exceptionl things. Issac Newton and Shakespeare did some of their best work during the Plague in England,
but what will the rest of us do?
Most people are busy getting a degree in TV and a doctorate in Google.

I am getting a project together. It will be a reading of a play I have adapted from Shakespearean materials. There are a lot of roles, most of which are brief. My plan is to do it in several sessions on Zoom. When it is done, I will be posting it on YouTube, crediting all participants. There will be a thread about it soon. If you are interested, please PM me with contact info. No need to get bored--just do stuff.

I've about 40 jobs on my To Do list, with only 5 on hold because of the lockdown. Most of them involve long-overdue cleaning and tidying, I've been putting them off for ages and they don't look any more attractive now than they ever did. Learning Andy Cutting's "Petit Chien" (on the melodeon, at dance speed, with no bum notes) looks like taking longer than my life expectancy.

However apart from that, I'd be unstoppable if I could just get started!

I'm not allowed to be bored. There's always something to vacuum, scrub, cook, or edit.

And it's still Lent. The shutdown is basically Extra Lent.

Crap.

In previous episodes of boredom, I've read all of Pepys' diaries (over a million words, but much more fun than you might imagine), the Sherlock Holmes canon, 'Canterbury Tales' (complete, in Middle English) and Thomas Hardy's novels.

This time, I'm trying to learn 'Little Man, You've Had A Busy Day' on the guitar, with Clapton's chords, and I have a fiddle to learn, from scratch (literally).

Oh, and I'm taking part in Rainfall Rescue:

https://www.zooniverse.org/projects/edh/rainfall-rescue

so brain death will probably get me before the virus does.

I don’t run to those. The one time mum and I did get out this year involved some Irish tunes (I try to play tenor banjo/mandolin) though. Moving in that direction, perhaps you could find a way to cook Whelan’s Old Sow???

Can’t help with the Sudoku, stanron but I’m glad you like the simple cryptic. I do the quick, cryptic and codeword in that set. I have tried their American crossword but I’m less fond of the grid and never seem to be on the same wavelength as the setter…

I am by now bored with my puzzles too.

My telepathy (tee hee) session wasn't that bad... I was able to set it so I didn't see me, but just the therapist, and I spent quite a bit of it cleaning up a grapefruit juice spill. He commented on how uncluttered my ceiling was. We have senses of humor.

I keep thinking that during the times I would be walking to group therapy and doing group therapy and walking back I should walk or pace, then do the art or music we'd be doing, then walk or pace sime more, but I don't actually do it.

Some good links there. I already had the jigsaw links from a previous thread but I do like the simple cryptic crossword. I have a couple of sudoku links

https://thesudoku.com

and

but I would really like to find a good Killer Sudoku site.

I guess its something you get used to. I suppose I have the advatage of always liking a lot of my own time but I also used to feel the need to get out, even if only for the last hour in the pub for a change of scene and faces.

Things changed though and, gradually, between health and transport issues things reached the point where I rarely get out. Its the same with my 80+ year old parents I live with. With one exception, I don’t think any of us have got away from the house for reasons outside medical or other appointments this year.

A couple of “boredom” things for me. A few puzzles, Quick and Mondays cryptic and quiptic in the Guardian (on line) , a few puzzles in the I and the local EDP and a couple of these simple ones and daily jigsaw.

In another way, I got dad volume one of an Edgar Wallace series. I joined mum and dad to wathc that in their living room and mum wnet on to get the full 7 volume set – volume3 started. Good old B British movie stuff to waste an hour per evening/film with.

Mrrzy, There are real people on their keyboard, we only seem virtual.

There is a movie with Kirston Dunston where a rogue planet collides with Earth called Melancholia. Most of the movie is about Kirston's deep deep depression prior to the discovery of catacylsmic events. As everyone else eventually becomes depressed Kirston becomes the caretaker for all with such wisdom and compassion that it is amazing.

In my mind Kirston was uniquely psychic but had no conscious recognition of her ability or future events. I have always equated your experience with Kirston. Normally I would never mention such a passing thought but in these days where the grim reaper has returned from holiday with a vengence I don't see any harm done.

Here is how the movie begins...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKsWNzKjVEk

Having had unique experiences with time it is not odd that I made such a comparison. Its okay to think I am crazy or wise, its just a passing thought.

I used to be a blood donor (husband can't as he's had malaria countless times) but the final two donations I passed out on the floor, so they sent a letter saying 'Thank you but don't come again'.
My thanks to all those who donate so kindly. So essential to save lives.

Think they (blood banks) might relax my lifetime ban for having had sex in the '70s in Côte d'Ivoire? They already forgave my having had malaria which was originally a lifetime ban as well.

Boy does cloroquine taste awful, I might add.

I've writ this elsewhere but consider donating blood. You'll sleep easier for a few days and have some time to recuperate without being physically or mentally too challenged, all other things being equal.

Also check out "Devs". First two episodes were intriguing.

I'm bored with sliced bread. Usually buy several nice loaves at a time to freeze but none left and the shelves are empty. No bread, no crumpets, nothing nice. Need something nice to eat if I can't go dancing or singing.
No baked beans and I had to go twice to get potatoes
I live miles from anywhere so usually stock up and shop monthly, now we are told not to stockpile - so that means more shopping trips and more social contact. Except that I'm told not to go out. And if supermarkets ration things my daughter won't be able to shop for me and herself at the same time.
