Some of those have been percolating in my head for so long I can't remember where they came from. Others I got from Spider Robinson's books about Callahan's SpaceTime Bar and Grill. And if you haven't read those then you've never read a book! |

If everyone wants to dance....and ya like slow songs....I discovered a few years back you can slide right from Tenessee Waltz into I Can't Stop Loving You without missing a beat...they sound good together too. If you want to close the medley with a bang you can jump straight into McCloed's Reel.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Newcomers Tavern - Part 2 From: guinnesschik Date: 22 Sep 00 - 11:35 AM Woah..I just slipped out so Himself wouldn't come lookin' fer me, and the place has filled up again. Greetings, all! Sorry I missed the waltz, 'cause I coulda played "Midnight On The Water" fer ya'. It's a nice, slidey, Texas kinda waltz. A round for all! And are there any other Texans in here? |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Newcomers Tavern - Part 2 From: Noreen Date: 22 Sep 00 - 09:49 AM Lepus, Mbo brought a bag of sawdust from the workshop as bedding for you- you didn't look too comfy without it. Everyone headed over to that HearMe joint a while back and the music was still going strong when I left. I've come back to put the kettle on, I'm sure I saw a large teapot under the sink ...and I'll make a big plate of ham butties 'cos everyone'll be hungry after such a long session. Now what can I find for our veggie friends......... |

(Leers) I like the slow numbers so I can get up close and personal. Oops! I don't usually talk like that. Must be the Irish Coffee! When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie that's amore, When a farmer has need to cut some more feed he cuts more hay, When you swim in the sea and an eel bites your knee thats a moray, He's a New Zealand man with a permanent tan, he's a maori. If you got vitamin B, C, D and some E, You need more A. Everybody sing! |

My Word! What a welcome! ... thank you Praise and everyone! This is all so touching & I'm starting to cry into my virtual beer. I feel dizzy trying to keep up with you all! This is too good to be real... |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Newcomers Tavern - Part 2 From: Noreen Date: 21 Sep 00 - 08:07 PM Thank you, Praise! I snuck in about six months ago (not a one for the grand entrance) and felt at home so quickly that I forgot to introduce myself. So, as you asked: I am now sitting getting my breath back after dancing a very energetic High Caul Cap, drinking a pint a fresh orange juice and soda with lots of ice cubes. The selection of drinks here is amazing. (I'll have that Jameson in a minute, thanks, Jon.) I sing all the time and am a 'words person': a friend of mine used to tell others that I knew the words to every song ever written. I wish! I was brought up singing Irish traditional Irish songs and that is my first love, but I love all sorts of music and am learning a lot from the diverse community here at Mudcat. I play piano a bit and have played with ceili bands- that looks like a nice piano in the corner- anyone mind if I give it a try? I'll accompany your session for a bit if nobody minds, it helps the dancers keep in time with the music as they're getting a bit noisy now! The newcomers are getting to know each other well! I was brought up near Liverpool and now live on the edge of the Pennine Moors near Bury, Lancashire. My concertina stays at home until I can play more than two Kerry polkas on it! Well, looks like Tinker and 'Spaw are ready to dance, so ANYONE ELSE FOR THE KERRY SET? (sound of very fast polka starting up). You brave enough to have a go, Matty? Noreen |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Newcomers Tavern - Part 2 From: Burke Date: 21 Sep 00 - 07:55 PM Praise, I'm really busy so I don't think I'll be trying to organize something anytime soon. Since you're so interested in OT Gospel I think YOU might like to get to the New York Sacred Harp Convention. Oct. 13-14 in Ithaca. More Here. Or PM me for information. B. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Newcomers Tavern - Part 2 From: Cavia_P Date: 21 Sep 00 - 07:38 PM Wheeek! Oh thank you Praise, that was a wonderful surprise. My two Little Furry Masters are wondering just what the heck's got into me. You should have seen me popcorning round the flat wheeeking my fuzzy fool head off! :o) (wheeking and popcorning means happy, happy cavies) Leppus Rex and Mouse Thief are not the only large rodents in the Tavern tonight! Now I'm back at the Tavern I ought to introduce myself... Mrs Duck, Patrish and a couple of other friends told me about Mudcat, so I owe them a huge THANKYOU! I live in Hull, England with the aforementioned LFM's. I sing when I can, dance a bit, recite the odd comic monologue and play the pocket bodhran. (Yes that's a real instrument!) I've been around the folk scene for about 15 years. I go to half a dozen festivals each year, but these days I tend to spend my festival time in the pub singaround sessions. The LFM's have a web site where they let me include some of my other interests. Phew! After all that lot it must be my round? Cavia_P
