So much dumbass shit.......So little time. Spaw |

Subject: RE: From Max: State of the Union Address From: Steve-o Date: 16 May 06 - 12:33 PM Sorry to say, I just don't regularly think to put a check in the mail to show how valuable this community that MAX invented is to me. I agree with Jerry- why not institute a yearly fund-raiser, or maybe one that asks for support every 6 months? A little kick in the pants will surely remind me to do what I know I should do. Thank you Max for the excellent message- my check is in the mail. |

Subject: RE: From Max: State of the Union Address From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 16 May 06 - 05:40 AM Giok "the fight is uneven and unending, and neither will win. Why don't you call a truce?" what would be the 'fun' in that to the eager participants? |

Subject: RE: From Max: State of the Union Address From: John MacKenzie Date: 16 May 06 - 05:18 AM That question has already been answered Roger, you may not like the answer, or the fact that it was answered by Joe and not by Max, and that is sticking in your craw. Nonetheless it has been answered, it is obvious that you and Joe will never see eye to eye, and it is obvious too that you are trying to sideline him, by appealing to Max over his head. I really think you should give up, the fight is uneven and unending, and neither will win. Why don't you call a truce? Giok |
Subject: RE: From Max: State of the Union Address From: The Shambles Date: 16 May 06 - 04:53 AM For the record, I have already asked Max to make Members-Only posting in the "BS" section, and I think membership should be granted only to those with verifiable e-mail addresses (you register, and then get a password sent back to you). So far, Max hasn't said anything about being ready to make the change. Joe Offer Dear Max From this - it sounds like a done-deal - a question of 'when' rather than 'if'. Could you please tell us if this is the case or not? Is it simply a matter of when you are ready? |
Subject: RE: From Max: State of the Union Address From: GUEST,catsPHiddle@work Date: 16 May 06 - 04:30 AM Max I agree with everything you have said. I have been to places I would not have known about without the 'cat. I am more than happy to help out with FoM. Subject: RE: From Max: State of the Union Address From: The Shambles Date: 16 May 06 - 03:22 AM How can we help Max (Moderated) has now been opened. It says it is a moderated thread and that 'no thread drift will be allowed' but as most of the contributors who felt themselves entitled to refresh and fill this one with personal judgements, abuse, offensive language, mental health assessments of their fellow invited guests, demand to ban this and close that and to generally post only to dictate what others should be allowed to do on our forum - will already be posting on that thread, there will be no need for it to be moderated. Or for this thread - or any other thread - to be closed. |
Subject: RE: From Max: State of the Union Address From: GUEST Date: 16 May 06 - 03:15 AM what Max said.. |
Subject: RE: From Max: State of the Union Address From: The Shambles Date: 16 May 06 - 02:59 AM I think that, since this thread has accomplished its purpose of getting Max's message out, it is time for it to be closed. As you are not this thread's originator - perhaps you should should just ignore it, move on and not try to prevent others from contributing what they choose to this thread? For what others may choose to post - is not really any of your or my business is it? When folk have finished contributing - it will fall off the bottom and die - unless those who only post to judge the thread and their fellow posters keep posting to refresh it. As Max is the originator, unless he chooses to close it - it will probably stay open open and die naturally, as none of our moderators will impose their judgement on Max's thead. Hopefully it will left and be the last of 400+ post threads where most of the posts are only poitless and counter-productive judgements of the thread and fellow invited guests? |

Subject: RE: From Max: State of the Union Address From: GUEST Date: 16 May 06 - 12:04 AM Talk about a lynching mob........ I have had the ability to stay out of a lot of bullshit, this time it seems to me there's a gang of people that don't differ from a pack of wolves and the strong one wins. Shambles- I read your posts and the more I read the responses, the more I see your rejected, and retain the strength to carry on, are in agreement with my own belief. Max- love you, love your site, but don't you think a little involement in your own thread would have made things a little lighter and more friendly? I think by your non-involement and not answering any direct question, only created more frustration for the questioner. This is my opinion and damn it-don't delete or bleap please! |

Subject: RE: From Max: State of the Union Address From: JedMarum Date: 15 May 06 - 11:27 PM Here's a blog entry to myspace about Mudcat ... |
Subject: RE: From Max: State of the Union Address From: JedMarum Date: 15 May 06 - 11:21 PM I guess I'm one of those folks who used to be around and have drifted away over the last year. Not comnpletely (obviously) and it is as much related to being busy as loosing interest. I come here to reseach songs. I use the DT. I thumb through old threads of discussion. I research the subjects on other sites that have been referenced here ... and I can do all that without saying a single word to anyone in a thread. I do post some, or have recently - I enjoyed the Jean Ritchie, and posted a comment or two. Asked about Annie Laurie and enjoyed a little chat in the Paul Mills/Joanne Crabtree thread. I've always ignored the hate=filled rages within some threads - so I can't say they drove me off. But it's true that some people do not know how to behave in public. An open forum can be an invitation to every idiot with an ax to grind. (I know, I know; we can ALL be idiots with axes to grind, every now and then). I guess that's why most forums are moderated. Even though I've had little to contribute to discussion over the last year, and I'm away for extended periods of time - I do check in now-and-then. I still love the place. I'll do my best to contribute to upkeep and conversation. I've linked to Mudcat from my website and have a blog entry on my Myspace profile about Mudcat. I'd love to see it continue to flourish and connect folklorist and folks music lovers around the world forever. Max, I'll contact you off-line - but I am most grateful for the effort and expense you put into this place. I hope you can do it as well for the next decade as you have for the last! |
Subject: RE: From Max: State of the Union Address From: Ron Davies Date: 15 May 06 - 10:29 PM Thanks to MMario, Amos, Becky and anybody else who told me about how to contribute by Visa. It turned out to be simple--all you have to do is call Dick Greenhaus at his CAMSCO 800 number and give him the visa card info. I did it--and recommend it to anybody in the US ( probably have to be in the US to use the 800 number). |

Subject: RE: From Max: State of the Union Address From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 15 May 06 - 08:51 PM Jaze... I have a DVD done as part of a series done by New York Start several years ago. I doubt that I could rights to use part of it for a song, but I'd be willing to try to do it. I imagine that there are others on here who have concerts or sets on video, if not DVD. I'd sure like to see friends on here doing a song. It sounds like an extremely difficult thing to pull off. Way beyond my abilities. Good idea, though. It's refreshing to at least get some positive, fresh ideas. Beats the Hell out of the pre-chewed bits of thought that fill most of this thread. Who knows?, maybe we could get back to trying to find ways to support Max. Jerry |
Subject: RE: From Max: State of the Union Address From: jaze Date: 15 May 06 - 08:44 PM Jacqui c brought to mind an interesting idea for a fund raiser. We have the Mudcat cd's. How about a Mudcat video? I've never met anyone here (yet), but it would be great to see some of the great performers "in person" as it were. Would this be a feasable project or too prohibitve? |
