Micca, I don't know about Maine, but Toronto is pretty un-cold with giant mountains of snow melting all over and a lovely London-ish fog covering the land. Tomorrow is supposed to be even warmer and I think maybe I should have packed shorts.

A major hiccup has manifested itself in Ottawa, and Edmund and I will probably NOT be able to make the trip this year.

Our elderly cat Perdita -- 18 and a half years old -- fell off the kitchen armchair this morning and staggered all over the floor before she could get her feet under her. This is the third time I've seen this problem, and once is happenstance, twice is circumstance, but three times is enemy action. Fortunately, the Bytown Cat Hospital is open today, and we got her in to see the vet.

Probably a potassium deficiency, said the vet, fairly common in very antique felines, but we won't know until the results of the blood tests come back from the laboratory on Tuesday. Also, we have to dose her twice a day with an appetite stimulant. Until the lab results come in, the vet will not be able to assess her as a candidate for boarding -- pilling the cat twice a day is more than I can ask of the homechecker.

On top of that, I'm still coughing badly and may not be travel-ready myself by Tuesday.

Watch and shoot ...

I'll make the cassoulet on Monday anyway, so it will be ready to go if we can come. We will keep you posted.

Well, I have done the "on-line check-in", I am now awaiting my "cat sitter" to arrive to get Keys so that Morgana The Flatulent also known as Little Wugsie has a comfortable time while I am Freezing my butt off in Maine ( I am still trying to work out how I agreed to exchange the freezing wet cold of London for the sub-zero temperatures of Maine)all I can do is plead" it seemed like a good idea at the time")!!!
After the journey home from "Old Keepers" yesterday after a splendid Christmas , Thank you Hils and Richard which included a 45 minute queuing in the open in freezing temps. with a 25-30 mph wind to add to the chill factor, and If that was the Gatwick Express I would hate to travel on the Slow, non-Express, transport I don't think I can be surprised by any travelling problem,, still see you Maineacs tomorrow sometime if all goes according to plan.

I am sitting in the living room of a Mudcatter looking out on the garden through the French windows at 3 squirells raiding the bird feeders and posing every now and then for a "Photo opportunity" like seasoned Politicians during elections. the birdlife is wonderful goldfinches and enough tits to keep even Squeaky happy!!! a couple of Collared Doves popped in and a pair of magpies,and robins and a Nuthatch so Greetings and a Happy (insert Festival/celebration of choice here) Christmas to all our Readers

Giok, Hate to say the obvious but" Been there, done that, got the T shirt" and very lovely it is too, with KT, Ebbie, Terry and Sal, you would feel very at home as the climate was very much like the North of Scotland (except I understand it gets a bit colder in the winter, a bit more like the top of Cairngorm) but the company (like in Maine) is of the very best!! and they even have VERY GOOD Beer!!
