Subject: RE: BS: Other than Imus... From: Sorcha Date: 18 Apr 07 - 08:46 PM What about Lenny Bruce? Course, nobody was sacred to him either. |

Subject: RE: BS: Other than Imus... From: Bill D Date: 18 Apr 07 - 07:23 PM Imus made a lame attempt to say that his show was 'just' humor.....he didn't sound very sincere or convincing... |

Subject: RE: BS: Other than Imus... From: Becca72 Date: 18 Apr 07 - 06:39 PM Wait....Imus is a comedian? Jerry Seinfeld makes fun of jewish people all the time...just because he is one does that excuse him? ;-) |

Subject: RE: BS: Other than Imus... From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 18 Apr 07 - 06:29 PM Mister Rogers never made fun of anyone. Of course, Mister Rogers was only funny if you'd been smoking a lot of weed. |

Subject: RE: BS: Other than Imus... From: Bill D Date: 18 Apr 07 - 12:17 PM ooohh...no, I'm sorry...I can't take Mencia. I have stumbled on him several times, and just don't find his 'sincerity' entertaining. (nope, Donuel...I wouldn't DARE try to be a professional comedian. My humor is way too slow) |

Subject: RE: BS: Other than Imus... From: katlaughing Date: 18 Apr 07 - 12:12 PM I am sure he offends scads of people, but nothing is sacrosanct with Carlos Mencia. He gives us all a glimpse of uncomfortable thoughts, beliefs, etc. that we may not even know we hold. It took me awhile to *get* his humour, but I now make it a point to watch his show. He also has a very sincere humanity which shines through, at time; a sincerity for people to get rid of their prejudices and come together. |

Subject: RE: BS: Other than Imus... From: Donuel Date: 18 Apr 07 - 11:20 AM yes Bill it is important for us to be kind. Bill you may be funny at times but you are not a professional comedian. I feel that Bill Mahre, George Carlin and Lewis Black have the greatest integrity among their fellow comedians because they tell the truth regardless of how gentle or hard it is. |

Subject: RE: BS: Other than Imus... From: Peace Date: 18 Apr 07 - 11:20 AM "From the March 16 edition of MSNBC's Imus in the Morning: EGAN: Well, Imus, the whole nation is talking about it -- stunned and shocked by it, indeed. You might've heard of it: This young colored fellah pretty much deckin' the old bag from New York and takin' away some of her money. I'm speaking, of course, about Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, bejeez. You satchel-faced bastard, ya, bejeez. By the way, bozo, despite what that woman says, the only thing that Hillary Clinton has in common with the late great, President John Fitzgerald Kennedy -- God rest his soul -- is that they both enjoyed extramarital affairs with women, bejeez." Anyone here find that funny? |

Subject: RE: BS: Other than Imus... From: Bill D Date: 18 Apr 07 - 11:18 AM oh...and I don't believe I ever heard Red Skelton insult any race...or George Gobel...or Ernie Kovacs.... I'd have to think about whether Sid Caesar's stuff was 'insulting' or not...he certainly did USE streotypes to make a point, but I never herad any complaints. Same with Mel Brooks. |

Subject: RE: BS: Other than Imus... From: Bill D Date: 18 Apr 07 - 11:14 AM Gentle (not 'gentile') humor poking fun at our human foibles, which 'sometimes' include noting how stereotypes are based in reality, can help us gain perspective. Sadly, some can't tell when they are crossing the line from gentle to insulting. If in doubt, don't say it. |

Subject: RE: BS: Other than Imus... From: Peace Date: 18 Apr 07 - 11:08 AM Martin Lewis converts and becomes a priest. He gives his first Mass in front of a number of high ranking priests who came for the occasion. At the end of the new priest's sermon, a cardinal goes up to congratulate him. "Pastor Lewis," he said, "That was very well done, you were just perfect. But next time, please don't start your sermon with, "Fellow Goyim..." To me that's funny. |

Subject: RE: BS: Other than Imus... From: Donuel Date: 18 Apr 07 - 11:07 AM Today I digitally painted Santa Claus crucified on a cross with Al Sharpton holding a spear saying "go ahead, say ho one more time!" |

Subject: RE: BS: Other than Imus... From: Bee Date: 18 Apr 07 - 11:01 AM saulgoldie, there are thousands of comedians, and who's heard all of their material? It's an impossible task. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Other than Imus... From: Riginslinger Date: 18 Apr 07 - 10:57 AM But Jerry Seinfeld never said anything that was funny. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Other than Imus... From: Alice Date: 18 Apr 07 - 10:55 AM Hmm. I think Jerry Seinfeld made fun of people in general, but maybe not in a mean way. |

Subject: RE: BS: Other than Imus... From: GUEST,meself Date: 18 Apr 07 - 10:51 AM Why? |

Subject: BS: Other than Imus... From: saulgoldie Date: 18 Apr 07 - 10:37 AM I did a mental inventory of the comedians I have heard, and I can come up with only one who hasn't made fun of some group or other. That is Jerry Seinfeld. Everyone else has had their turn on at least one group. Prove me wrong. |
