I have seen a generic remote that about the lngth and half the width of an A4 shhet of paper.

"make sure the leads are not loose... not all it's cracked up to be...."

but definitely all it's crackled up to be...

Try asking local social services old peoples' support about the special programmable large- button remotes that are available. My wife's 90-odd year old aunt has one, it's programmed for one button per channel with a selection of her favourite channels.

SCART is better quality than RF modulator BTW - it's the same signal with less done to it.

just make sure his ariel is ok, ours is an old one, and with digital AND being ooot in't t'country it's a pain in the proverbial. I suspect it's probably ok for you city dwellers. But it's a whole different kettle of fish (or kettle of blurry boxes) for us.

We are getting a new ariel soon, but make sure your chap's ariel (oooooo that doesn't sound so good) is the right one and erm... pointing in the right direction... Oh dear!

looks like the RF modualtor angle is a looser. They usually have pass-through but don't put digital back onto any analogue channels - they claim quality - the real reason is cost - and the spectre of naive users expecting better quality and not knowing how to get it - if needed. The 90+ gent doesn't want gadgets - I would have plonked it there and hid it. So thanks but not an issue now.

I still use my old black and white portable, which I can tune to ITV's local news, whereas ntl/virgin insist on giving me 'local?' news about what's happening in Bournemouth.

We recently purchased a combination DVD/VHS Video/Digibox from Argos. There is only one Scart lead needed, one extra arial cable and it takes up less space than all three boxes.

The remote isn't too bad, but it does take some getting used to. It's programmable, records to VHS or DVD, can record VHS onto DVD and vice versa, has an SD port for ScanDisks (useful if you've a digital vid camera), has VideoPlus and timer record.

It's worth looking into, but we've not been able to find if there's a favourites list yet...

Hi - UK info only please.

I am about to recommend a digibox for a 90+ gent - his daughter will set it and he can watch whatever is programmed for the night. He doesn't like remotes and new tellies don't have that one button per channel.

So - any ideas on a digibox that has 1) 7 day EPG 2) some switch-on timers programmed from EPG 3) and the difficult item - an RF pass-through (as opposed to only SCART). Price not an issue - they are all cheap enough (I reckon) HDD not a requirement (says daughter).

FWIW the Goomans GDB6 has no RF modulator so is SCART only (quality issue) we can use SCART but not sure about sharing it with DVD. Even my mega pricey DVD rec/HDD rec/SD doesn't have an RF out! For Quality - but not of life!
