Subject: RE: BS: Remember when? From: black walnut Date: 06 Jun 07 - 04:53 PM I love banana splits, too. And stockings with seams. And keyboards that can take the pressure of someone trained on a typewriter. But that's thread-creep. "People were constantly crabbing about the preponderance of BS posts." Joe Offer CRABBING?! Moi?? Well I never.. :-) ~b.w. |

Subject: RE: BS: Remember when? From: Bee Date: 06 Jun 07 - 10:29 AM I generally appreciate Merle (and husband loves him), but oh, I do hate that particular whiny song - you'll pry my microwave oven outta my cold dead hands, dammit! Oh, and I love the Music/BS split. |

Subject: RE: BS: Remember when? From: kendall Date: 05 Jun 07 - 05:31 PM I just don't want to wade through all that music stuff to find a good argument. :-) |

Subject: RE: BS: Remember when? From: Bert Date: 05 Jun 07 - 04:39 PM You're right Joe it is a wonderful solution. I get the choice of seeing them all mixed up and thems that don't like it can have them separate. |

Subject: RE: BS: Remember when? From: Joe Offer Date: 05 Jun 07 - 04:34 PM There are more music threads, but I think there are more non-music posts. Before the split, the 700-message chit-chat threads were constantly at the top of the Forum Menu because they were constantly getting messages to refresh them. To get to the music threads, you had to scroll down to the bottom of the page, since most were not even visible on the screen. People were constantly crabbing about the preponderance of BS posts. We discussed starting a separate forum for BS, but decided we didn't want to divide Mudcat like that. Many of the people who can best answer music inquiries, spend most of their time in the BS threads. If we moved BS to a different forum, those people would never see the music inquiries. Jeff's idea of splitting the forum and leaving it all on one screen, was simple and elegant. Some people don't like it, but the option of mixed messages is available to registered members on the Mudcat Membership page, or in "messages since last visit." I think it was a wonderful solution to a problem that plagued us for years. -Joe- |

Subject: RE: BS: Remember when? From: Bert Date: 05 Jun 07 - 04:25 PM BS IS the serious artistic side of life!!! |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Remember when? From: gnu Date: 05 Jun 07 - 04:20 PM Peter : "Could it have something to do with the fact that the Mudcat is supposed to be about music?" And the BS section isn't about music? It is about the music of life. It has spawned more than a few songs, a few stories, a few friendships, a few scraps.... I submit to you the hypothesis that both may coexist and, indeed, nuture each other. If not, for you, stay above the line. Me, I like to cross the line. And, as b.w. said, thanks for the ease of being able to do that, Max. |

Subject: RE: BS: Remember when? From: black walnut Date: 05 Jun 07 - 04:02 PM Labelling this thread B.S. was purely accidental! (NOT) Oh I do hear the humour you guys. Maybe we should start a category called "Musical B.S." - or divide up into categories such as GUITAR, ACCORDION, MORE GUITAR, HARP, MORE MORE GUITAR, SINGING, MORE MORE MORE GUITAR.... Seriously I do love that we have a B.S. category here on the 'Cat. It would be a good model for other newsgroups I know to follow. Writing down in the bottom third makes me feel less guilty for tying up space that should be devoted to the serious artistic side of life. ~b.w. |

Subject: RE: BS: Remember when? From: Peace Date: 05 Jun 07 - 03:29 PM "Bush was elected and gas was a dollar a gallon." I wish a buck was still silver. It was back when the country was strong. Back before Elvis; before the Vietnam war came along. Before The Beatles and "Yesterday", When a man could still work, and still would. Is the best of the free life behind us now? Are the good times really over for good? Are we rolling down hill like a snowball headed for hell? With no kind of chance for the Flag or the Liberty bell. Wish a Ford and a Chevy, Could still last ten years, like they should. Is the best of the free life behind us now? Are the good times really over for good? I wish coke was still cola, And a joint was a bad place to be. And it was back before Nixon lied to us all on TV. Before microwave ovens, When a girl could still cook and still would. Stop rolling down hill like a snowball headed for hell. Stand up for the Flag and let's all ring the Liberty bell. Let's make a Ford and a Chevy, Still last ten years, like they should. The best of the free life is still yet to come, The good times ain't over for good. (Thank you, Merle.) |

Subject: RE: BS: Remember when? From: MMario Date: 05 Jun 07 - 03:23 PM Usually if a poster STARTS a thread as BS: it remains so, unless it is clearly accidental. |

Subject: RE: BS: Remember when? From: Jim Lad Date: 05 Jun 07 - 03:13 PM Shouldn't this be up above with the "Tech" or "Origins" threads? |

Subject: RE: BS: Remember when? From: Midchuck Date: 05 Jun 07 - 02:59 PM I like 'em split too, but why are there always more music threads showing than BS threads, 112 to 62 BS showing on screen... Could it have something to do with the fact that the Mudcat is supposed to be about music? Peter |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Remember when? From: MMario Date: 05 Jun 07 - 02:57 PM If there are more music threads posted then BS threads, then believe it or not, more music threads got created/posted to/refreshed then BS threads did in the last 24 hours. The default display is all threads with a posting within the last 24 hours. |

Subject: BS: Remember when? From: black walnut Date: 05 Jun 07 - 09:46 AM Remember when Mudcat threads were split into Regular / B.S. ? That was a brilliant move. As one of those who can remember way back to the Dorian age when they were all jumbled together, I want to reiterate my thanks to the powers that be (Max etc.) for defining and separating the categories - Wonderbra! ~b.w. |
