I was with Diane last night at the Funi concert - marvellous stuff. The Oxford Folk Festival also had Steindór Andersen a couple of years back, performing in the fantastic Holywell Music Room. Iceland has some culture that is enriching us!

Lava, Tam. They bottle the stuff and sell it to bus loads of blue haired tourists. I'm still trying to figure out where he got the dirt for the garden.
As for Skarpi's advice to you .... Spot on Skarpi. I've always thought that just by asking for independence you are in actual fact, admitting that you don't deserve it. If it belongs to you Tam, take it. Emigration was my solution though.

I have just celebrated Iceland's Independence Day in the best possible way at a concert by Bára Grímsdóttir and Chris Foster performing as Funi, singing in parallel fifths and playing fidla, langspil and mildly amplified egg slicer.

Morgunbaen, a 17th century hymn, is one of the most sublime vocal renditions I have ever heard. And Chris did his epically famous Lord Bateman.

Tonight I'll fall asleep happily.

Guest Tam , its totally under the Scottish people

Our National Anthem is no Fourth Of July picnic either, Skarpi. The number of celebrities who have butchered it at the beginning of major sporting events often for a National TV audience, is far too long to mention. I've seen Michael Stipe of R.E.M. and John Hiatt (someone whose recordings I actually buy) massacre it in person at Baltimore Orioles baseball games.

But the tune WAS borrowed from a drinking song sung in pubs. I guess nobody cared if you hit that damned high note toward the end or not in the tavern.
