Gurney, my Kia had dark grey cloth seats...very subdued. Something must have gone screwy over there if you can only get tacky interior now.

Okay Folks-I thank you all for your input. Couldn't find a KIA place nearby.

Bought a Hyundai "Accent" last night. Did not dress it up-got an engine & 4 tires. Nice Gray. I don't do stick shift. Automatic added $1,000. In case anyone is interested, here is the final price including NYS Tax of 8.25 - $14,692.21

Now I need to ask for one more favor: I must cash in some bonds (Dble.EE) I cannot get any site to open for me (Webtv.net) and I've been to about 10 gov't. sites. The local banks say they must have the bonds in hand to give me a figure. I cannot get to town. MY neighbors have been so kind-but I don't want to bother them today.

Can someone PM me & I'll give the info. to check on line. Hate to ask-but I really need this info.

I read somewhere a while back that Mitsubishi was going under.
I've noticed that if I see a car burning oil it is often a Mitsubishi or a Ford Escort.

Mickey, if you like your car interior in restrained taste, don't bother looking at Kia. They look like a Chinese tat-and-decoration shop.
I've been giving them consideration as my Mitsy is going home, and they are very cheap and reportedly reliable, but ugh, that interior.

The Neon is OUT--My knees are in bad enough shape now!

Our first new car - middle 60's was a Red Toyota Corona-cost $3,000. The Corolla was like a bumper car.

I can't get to look at Kias--to far. Someone is taking me to Danbury, CT. tomorow to the Hyundais.(I finally know how to smell it.)

I thank you all for your kind help. I will post the results.

This one is snappier than the Hyundai, and it gets better mileage. However, it rides like a lawn mower and it is no fun to drive.

Now you know why the call it Dodge. It is not a proper noun. It's an imperative verb.

Dodge Neon? That's the one where you hit your knee on the dash, hit your knee on the door, hit....

I have a friend who is in her 2nd Hyundai and loves them.

I bought a 2000 Kia Sephia (my first brand new car) and had wonderful luck with it. It was a great little car. I got rid of it for something bigger at 104K miles but she was running like a dream even then. Kia is (or was at the time) owned by the same company as Hyundai.

Hyundai has been busting their butts to improve in the last decade or so. I haven't driven one lately but if I were in the market for a car, I would definitely check them out. A friend of ours recently rented a Sonata for a bit when her car got rear-ended and said she liked it a lot.

I agree with Kendall on the Sonata. It's a joy to drive, particularly after using the Dodge Neon we keep for carting the dog around and for freezing weather. (Risk of damage to the Sonata!)

Can't comment on the KIA.

I drive a 2001 Sonata. Outstanding car in every way. I wouldn't give a KIA hell room. Junk ,in my opinion.

Hyundai and KIA seem to be very much what Toyota was in the
1970s and 1980s. Good, economical, simple machines with quite
good quality. Toyota's moved on to being a bit more posh.

I've rented a Hyundai Sonata (remarkably good car) and a Tucson
(remarkably good small SUV) for a week each. I was favorably
impressed; considering I drive either an AUDI S4 or Toyota
FJ Cruiser at home, that's saying something about what I'm
measuring against.

If you're considering a Hyundai, take a look at KIA as well. The quality of both brands has increased tremendously over the last ten years or so.

I drove a KIA Spectra for a week or so while my Toyota Corolla was having some body work done. The Spectra is almost a clone of the Corolla, and costs a lot less money. The only real difference I noticed was that the Spectra didn't have quite as much acceleration as the Corolla.

Thanks fellows. I guess the ad for $10,000 is the smallest one--I have to have someone take me this week-end. No Dlr. closeby. I'm atsea as to models.

Anyone know which is the smallest model-Don't want that.

Thanks.

What model Hyundai? New at that price seems to be a good deal. Consumer Reports likes the Hyundai Azera, Entourage, Sonata and Tucson.

I've decides to pack in my Mitsubishi- The $225.00 I spent this week will be a life lesson.

Ad running on tv for auto. Hundai--$10,000. Plus tax of course. This is what I want to spend--Only know one person with a H.--she loves it-has had no problems-32mph & has 116,000 miles.

The mechanic said the orig. H. were crappy--but they have really a good product now.

I need advice-please. He also said No dlr. would give a penny for the 89 M. (New engine with 33,000Miles on it) (That's if I could get it to run! ) He called another mechanic to get ideas as to why it died. Seems it's hopeless.

I'm clearly out of my depth here--but my neighbor said there is a governor on the M. which shuts off the engine if the oil level gets low. Is that true?

I'd appreciate any advice. Thank you.
