Subject: RE: BS: How Long Can An SUV Burn? From: George Papavgeris Date: 02 Jul 07 - 09:09 AM Interesting, Bill D: Weather related disasters merit 30 seconds on CNN, terrorist related ones a lot more. It reflects the administration's priorities over the last decade, it seems to me. |

Subject: RE: BS: How Long Can An SUV Burn? From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 01 Jul 07 - 02:11 PM An SUV can burn for a few minutes in the real world. In the pseudo-world of the media it will burn for as long as those who control the media believe that the image of a burning SUV is going to sell more laundry detergent than an image of something else. As soon as something that will sell a few more bottles of soap comes along, the SUV fire will be put out. |

Subject: RE: BS: How Long Can An SUV Burn? From: Genie Date: 01 Jul 07 - 03:54 AM How long can an SUV burn? Long enough to totally upstage the release of Michael Moore's explosive documentary "Sicko," potentially applecart-upsetting SCOTUS decisions, and any other important news that the terrorists who now control the USA executive offices do not want the public to pay attention to. After all, Paris Hilton has been out of jail for, like, half a week already, so we hadda find an equally "hot" diversion. Genie |

Subject: RE: BS: How Long Can An SUV Burn? From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 30 Jun 07 - 10:51 PM We get BBC TV news with our regular cable programing so we got better coverage. The SUV did burn for a long time, but much of the water was being put on the building entry; the object being to protect the building, not just to douse the vehicle, and that was done. BBC reports indicate a connection to the car bombs in London (type of material), and the arrest of two suspects, but the first report by the authorities will not be until tomorrow. CNN is always heavy on speculation, mostly unfounded. A very poor news source. Too much time spent on murders, foibles of the rich and famous, etc., and building local tragedies into national entertainment. |

Subject: RE: BS: How Long Can An SUV Burn? From: Bill D Date: 30 Jun 07 - 10:04 PM It burned here in the USA for 6-8 hours...*grin*... I guess after it quit burning the photo ops weren't too interesting, so they just ran it every 10 minutes. CNN & MSNBC gave about 30 seconds to the disasterous floods in Texas & Oklahoma, and almost continuous 'coverage' to speculating about that SUV and its contents, occupants and implicastions. Conclusion: no one is sure who did it, but lots of folks are sorta worried. wow....brilliant. |

Subject: RE: BS: How Long Can An SUV Burn? From: John on the Sunset Coast Date: 30 Jun 07 - 09:01 PM You know, if the only thing you wonder about is how long an SUV can burn, and about CNN coverage (and MSNBC for that matter), then I think you really have missed the significance of world events. BTW, I hope you're not planning to experiment with CNN. |

Subject: BS: How Long Can An SUV Burn? From: Nick E Date: 30 Jun 07 - 07:26 PM I do not mean to belittle the threats we face. This is about how the media covers incidents and how we precieve what the media presents to us. How long can an SUV Burn? When I heard about the attack at Glasgow around 2:30 this afternoon, Eastern Daylight Savings Time (US), news reports said the flames had been put out in the area of the "incident" not all that long after the explosion. I went for a kayak paddle and two hours later turn on the TV (CNN) at the bar and there the merry little SUV is still glowing away! And did so while I was there for two hours, and I expect it still is and will for I do not know how long in tv land . I would take the over whatever it is. Somewhere tower one or two or even both at the same time are still colapsing. My understanding is the fire is out at Glasgow and has been for may hours. I have yet to see a picture that confirms that. My understanding is the towers colpased long ago and new construction has taken place in the area. DOnt see much of that either. It seems the media shows an attack as permanent, and controll and recovery as non existant. How long would they broadcast pictuers of the CNN studio in flames? |
