County Donegal offers the best scenery in Ireland, I have been to them all and dear old Donegal [all of the 26 Counties are dear] is tops, it is not too far off the beaten track, yet, it seems to be on this Site.

My favorite in the Galway area is the town of Clifden, the largest city in Connemara.

There is good horseriding available near Dingle and, of course, in Connemara.

I can second the music venues that Gulliver mentioned plus the Goleen Singer's Club.

Yes, the three women will be horseback riding, seeking out fabric shops, etc. (they're ALL quilters as well). I, on the other hand, intend to...to...carry their purchases and things.

I presume your trip to the Boyne valley will include Newgrange :
;this has become highly commercialized these days and has maybe lost a little of its "magic" in the process.

While in Galway a trip to The Burren is a must.

Can't go sooner, Garg, or I would. We saved lotsa money by visiting at the end of January/beginning of February last time. Of course, many of the touristy-type purchases weren't available, but how many blackthorn sticks do you really need?

In addition to Dublin, we also plan to visit the Boyne Valley, the Ulster-American Folk Park, Powerscourt, Glendalough, Dingle (sure, an' me wife's folks are from there an' Castlegregory), Cork, and, likely, Galway (the city and the county). Our horsewoman wants to ride (I offered her a chance in the rodeo out here, but nooooooo...), and there are several places along the way for that.

And when I say I haven't been in Dublin for a while I meant it. I was last there in 1979. I hear it's changed a bit since.

Aerlingus rates will save you twice the quid if you can go two months sooner....even sleazy-jet if your book a package.

Have stayed in the same area of Mickey above - never a problem - although advised by a local "mum" to watch close because the area was known for "snakes."

ONe place we stayed in City Center:Acara House - 35-40 Euros. p.p. includes breakast. That is shown on the above site.

Years ago - we were on the cheap- and rented a room which was actually students lodgings at Trinity Coll.
There was no lock on the door- We paid for the first night & left our luggage & a tin of cookies in the room. Under the pillow I left my make-up bag. (Held all the goodies)My husband was very nervous about the no lock situation. We walked about two blocks & we went right back. Didn't see anybody-- The suitcases were untouched-But some SOB took my make-up & the cookies. We cleared out-Lesson Learned-Cheap is not always good.

WE stayed in some lovely B&Bs in Cork City, Limerick & Donnegal. Great People!

If you google Bord Failte or Irish Tourist Board you should come up with an official website for booking accommodation. There are so many recently built and under consruction apartmnets in the Dublin area at the moment, that I'd be amazed if there weren't huse numbers of these up for rental at the moment.

Together with some friends we rented an apartment in the centre of Rome earlier this year.
On previous "city breaks" we've stayed in pensions and hotels but found this a far better alternative, much more easy going and economical.

Bear in mind that the end of May is a popular public holiday in the UK and the beginning of June is a public holiday in Ireland also; so demand, and prices, may be higher.

I'd recommend staying somewhere in the South City centre. If it's music you're after the Jurys Inn hotels are quite economical and centrally located, for example the one at Christ Church is close to the city centre and also within walking distance of some folk venues such as the Brazen Head, the Cobblestone, Vicar Street, Hugh's, O'Shea's and the lesser-known Pale and Nash's where I play myself.

There are two hotels in Smithfield, the Park Inn and the Comfort Inn, which is also close to the above-mentioned venues.

I don't know of any flats, but I'm sure there must be some available.

Seems to me that St John Gogarty's in Temple Bar had a flat as part of its accom. facilities. Might be wrong. If the University term has finished, there might be accom at the halls of residence, and a cluster of rooms often has a kitchenette/lounge attached.

Forget the two-headed monkey and such, I'm talking about me.

Well, actually my wife, two friends, and me. My wife needs an Ireland fix and so is planning a trip around the end of May, 2008. And since the last time we were in Dublin the ink was still wet on the Book of Kells, the town might have changed a bit.

She's thinking of taking a flat for a week, if it's possible to find something that will accomodate four adults with beds, a toilet and shower, etc.

Any suggestions would be welcomed. She's been going through "Ireland of the Welcomes" and Bord Failte, etc., but I thought perhaps someone might have suggestions.

NB: These are four librarians and two lawyers, totalling in all four people, three of them women. We will NOT be traveling with people who have names like Cheney or Bush -- we don't associate with THAT sort.
