I sure would regret the lose of good drinking songs!

Words & music by Lou and Peter Barryman ©
From singing of Deb Sawyer
Portland Observatory 1990

Are You Drinking with Me, Jesus?

While you nestle by my bar stool,
Making me so calm within?
Do you warm me with your presence,
Or have I warmed myself with sin?

Chorus:

Are you drinking with me, Jesus?
I can't see you very clear;
If you're drinking with me, Jesus,
Won't you buy a friend a beer.

If you're omnipresent, Jesus,
You don't have to use the phone;
If you're always by my side, Lord,
You need never drink alone...

Do you teeter with me, Jesus,
On my way home so forlorn?
If you think that you feel bad now,
Just wait until tomorrow morn...

Does your head pound with the masses,
As hung over you do rive?
What does Heaven look like, Jesus,
Seen through holy bloodshot eyes?

Should we take a taxi, Jesus,
Or should we walk from here?
I know you can walk on water,
But can you walk on this much beer?

Chorus:(2X)

Are you drinking with me, Jesus?
I can't see you very clear;
If you're drinking with me, Jesus,
Won't you buy a friend a beer.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

I think Bill D has the right idea. Budget cuts can force interesting mergers.

If all the booze in the world disappeared....I wouldn't blink an eye.

Same goes for all the televisions and soft drinks and casinos and bags of overly salty chips and all the pizzas and all the pro sports leagues too. I would't miss any of them if they were gone. What I do miss is good looking shoes. Nobody sells good looking shoes anymore...they all look like something from a "Sonic the Hedgehog" videogame.

Still, I can relate to your problem, punkfolkrocker. Aging is a very troublesome matter. You're worried about being "nearly 50"???

Hell, man, I am nearly 60.

Well, there's "Drink My Wife Away"--might be different perspectives on that.

Here, with this you can do some vicarious drinking and dance along to the song for excercise.....oh dear....but then, I guess you could also do some vicarious dancing and drink along to the song too.

Well I must admit I have cut down a lot recently, but I can't imagine life without the occasional drink. If I ever each the stage of my old friend Peter, who was pathologically incapable of putting the cork back in a bottle , I will give it up totally.

You don't see a future in it? Neither did I. It'll soon be 6 years dry for me. I've got enough problems without a drinking problem to compound things.

Just stop if you can. At least reduce, you'll be better for it.

Good luck.

Peace, Mooh.

If you drink yourself to death now, you won't have to worry about the impoverished old age.

threading this upstairs instead of in the dank dark stinky BS celler
cuz i reckon this might lead to some intresting song sugestions..

ok..

i can't afford to drink..

literally.. too much money i can ill afford..

for far too little pleasure return..

spending half my life weekdays in the gym keeping health and fitness
as my only defense against an impoverished old age
without private pension & insurance funds..

but weekends drinking too much real proper cider..

figuratively and poetically and intelectualyy.. errrrmmm...???

somethingelseically.. times running out..

sooner or later i will be in wrong place wrong time situation
and get my teeth smashed out or get stabbed..
wake up in casualty ward..

or even worse..

wake up next morning in bed with some scrawney sullen disease ridden jaundiced junkie granma
off the subhuman estate
south of town centre....

i'm nearly 50.. i so do enjoy a pint..

but don't see a golden glowing future in it....

errrrrr....????
