It is "Sweet Sue Pow", as evidenced by the English captions in the video.

I've always been the guy with the finger in his nose
When the passport picture gets taken
When the big guys took me out stealing chickens
It was me caught holding the bacon
When they're dropping a piano from the forty seventh floor
I'm the guy underneath a looking up
And when the tidal wave strikes a hundred miles at sea
I'm always at the rail throwing up

Whee, KER-Pow!
Somehow I woulda met you anyhow
You fix it up and then holy cow
You folks should oughta see me now....

I was standing in the artsy-fartsy uptown restaurant a few frozen dinners ago
When I stumbled on a waiter full of crepe suzettes
And I ran out the door flambeaux
Then I ran down to Chinatown got myself some soy sauce
And grabbed some moo goo gai-pan to go
When I got wiped out by a stray bean sprout that was landin' on the floor

Whee, KER-Pow!
Somehow I woulda met you anyhow
You fix it up and then holy cow
You folks should oughta see me now....

Well I finally got so fed up
I was off to blow my head off
With the gun inside the cash box at the store
Then I thought I'd grab a fistful
Just in case I weren't successful
But instead I got my tie caught in the drawer
When you're riding down the road at a hundred miles an hour
And the guy ahead is hitching someplace
Honey don't you be surprised I'll be wiping out my eyes
If you pass me leaving dust in my face

Whee, KER-Pow!
Somehow I woulda met you anyhow
You fix it up and then holy cow
You folks should oughta see me now....

Whee, KER-Pow!
Somehow I woulda met you anyhow
You fix it up and then holy cow
You folks should oughta see me now....

Oh boy, I really want you to be right about it being "Sue Pow". I feel like it's going to end up being something really obvious--like when you solve a clue in a crossword puzzle.
Sadly, I'm not hearing "Sue" in there.

I think the disputed chorus lyric is actually "Sweet Sue Pow, somehow I would have met you anyhow." Which makes a certain sense-- If the singer is referring to a person "Sue Pow" would be a name, and of course the song was done for WHAT'S UP TIGER LILY with all its Asian associations.

I always thought the first line of the chorus was "Where's Your Pow", sung in a stylized manner that altered the vowel in "Where's" to make it more lyrical. You know what I mean? "Where's" wound up sounding like "Wheee(ehr)'s". Still doesn't make sense, though.

In the chorus, I think "You folks had oughta see me now...." might actually be "You folks should oughta see me now...."? Hard to tell, with the "s" at the end of "folks" getting in the way. Since I'm not familiar with either of those slang constructions ("had oughta"/"should oughta"), I Googled them both. "You had oughta" had 2 results, and "you should oughta" had over 500. So, I vote for "You folks should oughta see me now".

In the last verse, the line in question sounds to me like:

"And a guy ahead's hitching someplace"

Once again, doesn't make a lot of sense, but it sounds fairly clear to me.

Thanks to all who contributed! The mysterious lyrics to this tune have been bothering me for years!

Jared

Actually, the more I listen to the chorus, it sounds like it might start with "Whee, KER-Pow"

I can't really understand the chorus, either, so I left your works, but this is how I hear the remaining lyrics:

I've always been the guy with the finger in his nose
When the passport picture gets taken
When the big guys took me out stealin' chickens
It was me caught holdin' the bacon
When they're droppin' a piano from the forty seventh floor
I'm the guy underneath lookin' up
And when the tidal wave strikes a hundred miles at sea
I'm always at the rail throwin' up

The chorus sounds something like

Weepin' how
Somehow I woulda met you anyhow
You fix it up and then holy cow
You folks had oughta see me now....

Chorus

Well I finally got so fed up

With the gun inside the cash box at the store
Then I thought I'd grab a fistful
Just in case I weren't successful
But instead I got my tie caught in the drawer
When you're ridin' down the road at a hundred miles an hour
And the guy (HITS??) (HE'S??) hitching someplace
Honey don't you be surprised I'll be wipin' out my eyes
If you pass me leavin' dust in my face

Chorus

I figured it was a typo.
The YouTube video didn't really help that much. I have the song, I just don't have the words written down anywhere; they are hard to decipher.

What does "ud" mean? I've got most of it now except for the last verse. Something like:

Well I finaly got so fed up
I was off to throw my head up
Put my gun inside the cash box at the store
Then I thought I'd grab a fistful
Just in case I was successful but instead I got my tie caught in the drawer
When you're drivin' down the road at a hundred miles an hour
And the guy's got ???????
Honey don't you be surprised I'll be wipin' out my eyes
?????????.....dust in my face

Thanks....I'll have a look at the YouTube video.

This song is available on YouTube by The Lovin' Spoonful. There should be enough of ud to figure it out.

Actually, "Whee! Pow!" makes more sense than anything else I've been able to think of, and it brings the song title into the lyrics.

Well the attic yields nothing of note, so to speak.

I recall the chorus as starting

"Weee! Now,I would have loved you any how"

More research to come.

I've listened to several sound samples, and I have these corrections to make:

… the GUY with his finger in his nose …

… droppin' a piano from the forty-SEVENTH floor …

… standing IN the ARTSY-FARTSY uptown restaurant …

… got myself some SOY sauce …

… You FIX it up and then holy cow …

It's the chorus that eludes me. "Weepin' how" makes no sense to me, and I figure it must me wrong. Since the word "pow" doesn't appear anywhere else in the lyrics, I'm inclined to think it must be "pow" not "how"--but then "weepin' pow" doesn't make any sense either.

In the last line of the chorus, I'm not sure about "oughta." It might be "are gonna."

Well. You'll be saving a starving PhD student hours of googling time. I'm sure that will bring you good karma.
My faulty decoder ring got me this far:

I always was the man with his finger in his nose
When the passport picture gets taken
When the big guys took me out stealin' chickens
It was me caught holdin' the bacon
When they're droppin' a piano from the forty second floor
I'm the guy underneath lookin' up
And when the tidal wave strikes a hundred miles at sea
I'm always at the rail throwin' up

The chorus sounds something like

Weepin' how
Somehow I woulda met you anyhow
You pick it up and then holy cow
You folks you oughta see me now....

I was standing at at the ???? uptown restaurant a few frozen dinners ago
When I stumbled on a waiter full of crepe suzettes
And I ran out the door flambeaux
Then I ran down to Chinatown got myself some sauce
And grabbed some moogoo gai-pan to go
When I got wiped out by a stray bean sprout that was landin' on the floor

CHORUS

Thanks again, and good luck on your mission to the attic of no return.
God speed.

L.T.

Meaning how many lyrics do you have. I am not implying there is a charge for my services. All tho' the attic is a fearsome place.

How much do you have? I think it is an old song book in "The Attic of No Return". I'll look but it will take a day or two.

Ahem, intrepid Mudcatters! I need (okay, want) the lyrics to the song "Pow" by the Lovin' Spoonful. Although I have a recording, I'm finding some of the words hard to decipher. Someone more culturally literate than I can probably decode it easier than I can.
Thanks in advance!
