Subject: RE: Review: Johnny Silvo - what a performer! From: scouse Date: 18 Nov 07 - 05:41 PM Teribus...Tommy Fleming never turned up at Skagen in 2005. Peer Anderson, the musical director was at a loss what to do and talked to Gerd Parkholt whom used to run the Festival. She advised him to get Jonnhy to do the Final act. So Johnny together with Avid Lone playing Bass, Hans on Guitar, (I've forgotten his surname but comes from Norway) plus Leif Ernsten on Box went on stage with little or no rehearsal and proceeded to blow the place apart..I finer performance I've not witnessed in years. Subject: RE: Review: Johnny Silvo - what a performer! From: Hawker Date: 18 Nov 07 - 12:46 PM Our band were his support act at Blisland last month, I was totally in awe - What a superb performance, and such a lovely guy too. It was a joy to perform alongside him, though he outshone us to the point of eclipse, in my opinion. Will make an effort to see him again. I do urge you all to see him, he is a great performer and entertainer and his vocal range is STUNNING. Cheers, Lucy |

Subject: RE: Review: Johnny Silvo - what a performer! From: The Doctor Date: 18 Nov 07 - 06:08 AM I first saw Johnny Silvo when he performed at college, in the late 60s. I next saw him the The Grove Folk Club about four years ago, and he remembered having borrowed my guitar at the college gig when his broke a string. He looked a little older, but not that much, and he sounded as good as ever. He was the reason I decided, having been out of the folk scene for nearly 30 years, that I should get back in. Since then I've seen him at Stoney Stratford and Cottingham, and I'm looking forward to the next time, wherever it is. He was and still is a great entertainer, and a very nice person. |

Subject: RE: Review: Johnny Silvo - what a performer! From: Teribus Date: 17 Nov 07 - 10:25 AM I believe it was at Skagen in 2005 that at the final Concert on the Sunday night an act dropped out at the last minute. At reportedly a few minutes notice Johnny jumped in to plug the gap, with an impromptu performance of about an hour, considered by many there to have been the performance of that years festival. A true Gentleman, an first class entertainer and a complete professional. |

Subject: RE: Review: Johnny Silvo - what a performer! From: Lowden Jameswright Date: 17 Nov 07 - 08:09 AM Catch him every year - have done so for the past 35 years; he's the best performer IMHO. His voice isn't what it used to be, but then he was so far off everyone else's scale anyhow so it don't matter! Anyone not seen him yet - a must see entertainer in the true sense... and such a lovely guy. |

Subject: RE: Review: Johnny Silvo - what a performer! From: Big Al Whittle Date: 17 Nov 07 - 07:19 AM Yes I saw him at the Real Music Club in Swadlincote this year. He's great. A link to an earlier era, when folk was not minority music. |

Subject: Review: Johnny Silvo - what a performer! From: Arnie Date: 17 Nov 07 - 06:30 AM Went to see Johnny Silvo last night at the Deal Folk Club and what a performance he put on! English Folk, American folk, blues, gospel, and with his amazing vocal range we got impressions of Satchmo and even Ella Fitzgerald! All this accompanied by his usual witticisms and good humour. This is a man in his 70's (well, only just) who still comes over from Norway a couple of times a year to tour, and who really knows the meaning of entertainment - which is why we had a full house. He's got a few more gigs around Oxfordshire, Bucks and Dartford - see Perrots Folly website for details. If you get a chance to see him before he goes back to the land of the ice and snow, I'd seize it. And no, I'm not his agent, just a folk club regular who appreciates a performer who can hold an audience all evening and deliver a belting performance every time. |
