I distinctly recall the proliferating of "the Charmin squeeze" use by many young people (males especially) to convey social meaning(s) to peers. It definitely "entered the language." The "Charmin squeeze" was frequently followed by the "face slap," but that's another line of discussion. His other accomplishments should also be recalled, but the commercials were enough for him to be remembered. John |

Dick Wilson made "Please don't squeeze the Charmin" a household phrase. A statement released by Procter and Gamble says Wilson died at the Motion Picture and Television Hospital in Woodland Hills, Calif. He was 91. The brand manager for Charmin says Wilson "deserves much of the credit for Charmin's success." Wilson appeared in more than 500 commercials for Charmin from 1964 to 1985. Wilson's career lasted nearly 70 years. He had roles in radio, TV, movies and theater. His TV roles included Captain Gruber on "Hogan's Heroes." |
