RTS - I had a vision of the coffin being propelled at speed and jumping the cremation flames.... am I sick puppy or what?!

Bless him, I grew up watching him and wanted to ride a motorbike because of it. Somehow Eddie Kidd just wasn't the same.

Now we can't even retell Derek Brimstone's great shaggy dog story set at the Grand Canyon.

I'll bet they can't just drop him in the grave without breaking something.
God rest him!

I promise not to be the first person to make a joke about hearses jumping over buses...

In the end it was the banality of failing organs that took him. He provided spectacle and daring for us. I am glad he lived long enough to at least enjoy the start of old age. He didn't do anything, which I wanted to do. I don't admire him any the less for that. He was a true individual, so I hope he is somewhere where he feels appreciated. He was certainly a very brave man.

Wherever he lands it has to be better than a bunch of his landings in this life. It wasn't so much what he did or how he did it but more that the man was an ATTRACTION or a SPECTACLE unto himself.

You have to say he truly did it his way no matter how screwed up that may have seemed to many. A lot of folks in the general public consider racers in motorsports to be risk takers but they are wrong. Most are highly competitive and risk is a factor they try to mitigate. Evel Knievel on the other hand was completely about risk, a true daredevil. He entertained millions of people for many years and you just knew that no matter what, Evel just plain liked the job. The American Daredevil.

Wick it up and go for it Man......Land soft.........

I like to think that he jumped this mortal coil astride a rocket propelled Harley.

Well, damn, I guess he's made his final jump. What a remarkable man.

'No king or prince has lived a better life,'' he said in a May 2006 interview with The Associated Press. ''You're looking at a guy who's really done it all. And there are things I wish I had done better, not only for me but for the ones I loved.''

The TImes' obit on Evel Kneivel tells it better than I can. An amazing human being, born in a rough and crazy world, lived a rough and crazy life, and came out as a shining example of Everyman with a bug up his ass. He added color and brav ado to a society which was lacking in both.

Adios, Evel, and fare well on your travels. Jump high. It was good having you in the circus.
