Subject: RE: High barbaree shanty free to good home From: MartinRyan Date: 07 Jan 08 - 05:23 PM I remember getting a present years ago of a casette of shanties (in English) sung by what was described, IIRC, as a "Dutch fishermens choir". It was dreadful! Very rigid, choral singing without any sense of what the songs were for. Curiously, the versions used were excellent - as were the accompanying notes. And there was a lovely picture on the sleeve... But - the singing....! Regards |

Subject: High barbaree shanty free to good home From: skipy Date: 07 Jan 08 - 05:08 PM This is probably the worst record that I have tried to give away! High Barbaree By Ray Martin & his orchestra. Sung by The Bill Shepperd Chorus with Johnny Webb. If any of you are catters - SORRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 11 tracks in all. One is called "The chinese bumboat man"! No date that I can see, but has to be 50s. It is a 33 1/3 rpm 10". Found it in a skip of course! Usual rules apply (ish) First to say yes gets it, I don't want postage back, however I would like to hear a tape of this one! Just say "yes" & PM me an address. Skipy |
