I was simply making a little joke, Teribus, and in doing so invoking the image of Horatio Hornblower, one of my favorite characters of all time, in one of his more strict and sober moods. He was like that sometimes, as were many British officers. ;-) I have no objection at all to the lively antics in the video. As you say, they are rather reminiscent of skylarking in the old British Navy.

Not in the least Little Hawk - There was a pipe-call for "Hands to skylark and dance" in the Royal Navy of Nelson's time, in which the antics as shown in the clip would not have been out of place at all.

One thing is for certain, you would not be best advised to try any of it on the flight deck of a carrier (crowded, noisy and very dangerous).

Just a dumb question here. Why does the Pound Sterling symbol show in the Subject box but not (to me at least) on the thread title on the main page? What should be £ shows to me as ?

I've had this happen several other places and not even consistently then. Sometimes the proper symbol and sometimes a ? mark.

I just think it's odd is all.

Very enjoyable once I turned the sound down to nothing. That strangled falsetto voice! How creepy.

Fortunately, even with my sound turned all the way down, I could hear the joyful sound of YMCA.

I liked the camouflage jobs on those Vietnam-era jets, Slag. Today's military jets all seem to be in overall haze grey...I gather it's a good practical camouflage, but boy is it ever dull looking!

I crew-chiefed F-4s during the VietNam war and I would have been court-marshaled for antics like those. I also would have had my back out! Very cool!

Now just how did it happen in the last few decades that American inner-city street culture crawled crassly across the Atlantic and took over the cultural sensibilities of Great Britain, a once noble civilization? What a horrifying development. I blame it on too damned much watching telly! ;-)
