Subject: RE: BS: Obama in the Gutter? From: Bobert Date: 02 Apr 08 - 07:33 PM Ahhhh, maybe just maybe, that is why he isn't running for the "Best Bowler in America"... But nevermind that... I hear he has a nice mid range jump shot and guess what??? More people watch basketball than bowling no matter what time of day it is... Don't believe me??? Set yer alarm clock to 3:00 in the morning and turn on yer TV and start clicking thru the endless channels and see how many feature dumbass bowling verses basketball... Yeah, I want a Commander-in-Chief who can hit a 17 foot "J" at 3:00 in the friggin' morning... B;~) |

Subject: RE: BS: Obama in the Gutter? From: Bobert Date: 02 Apr 08 - 06:36 PM 4 years of bowling and only in the 90's, John... Shoot, I think he'd probably be a 170 bowler with 4 years of practice... The 36 tells me that he has never ever bowled... |

Subject: RE: BS: Obama in the Gutter? From: JohnInKansas Date: 02 Apr 08 - 06:29 PM Unless it's been removed in renovations, the White House has a bowling alley. Whoever occupies it should have easy access to a place to practice, and could easily appoint a handy ten-year old kid to coach. Obama might easily get into the 50s or even 90s by the end of his first term, and then would have irrefutable evidence of having made some actual progress at something. [no comparisons to existing or former White House tenants need be assumed.] John |

Subject: RE: BS: Obama in the Gutter? From: Bobert Date: 02 Apr 08 - 06:21 PM I understand that Obama rolled a 36 the other day at a PA bowling alley... 36??? Man, that sucks big time... No wonder Hillary wants a bowl-off... Helen Keller could bowl better than a 36, gol danged it!!! B;~) |

Subject: RE: BS: Obama in the Gutter? From: Don Firth Date: 02 Apr 08 - 05:53 PM It doesn't seem to have come out in this thread, but I heard that what precipitated Hillary's challenge (in addition to it being April Fool's Day) was that Obama, in a pick-up game in Philadelphia over the weekend, established himself as "King of the Gutter-Ball," scoring a whopping 37 (out of a possible 300), and wound up getting bowling tips from a ten-year-old girl. If he does make it to the White House, I doubt that we really need worry too much about his getting a phone call at three o'clock in the morning challenging him to go bowling. Don Firth |

Subject: RE: BS: Obama in the Gutter? From: Jack the Sailor Date: 01 Apr 08 - 06:06 PM Carol says that it is a good thing that he does not bowl. I agree. It would indicate a questionable prioritization of his time. I hear he is a good basketball player. We should have a pool to see which talk show host he plays one on one with. My money would be on Craig Ferguson, the lanky European, but I hear that Oprah has a mean set of elbows in close. |

Subject: RE: BS: Obama in the Gutter? From: Charley Noble Date: 01 Apr 08 - 04:20 PM Jack- This thread reminds me of a bowling parody of an old sea shanty: Words by Mark Cohen © As sung by Bob Walser at Mystic Sea Port in 1992 Minor changes by Charlie Ipcar Tune: "Roll the Woodpile Down" The Bowling Shanty C----F-------G- C------F----C---G Well, I know a cure for grief and pain, Dm----------C--G-C--F 'Way down the al-ley way, C--------------G-C---F-----C--G Let's go down to the bowl-ing lanes Am-------Dm-----C--F----C And we'll roll the old ball down! Chorus: F-----C---F-----C Bowl-ing, bowl-ing! --------F-----C--------------Dm--Am We're bowl-ing the whole year 'round! ------C------F------G----C-----Dm-Am/F/C/G That brown gal of mine bowled a two-o-nine – Am------Dm------C--F----C And we'll roll the old ball down! When I was young and in me prime... I'd blow them pins down ten at a time... I once knew a guy called Curley Brown... He'd bowl a ball weighed seven hundred pounds... When Curley let flew with that ball... He'd blow a big hole in the backstop wall... He'd blow them pins into little bits... And still be left with a seven/ten split... It's one more frame and that'll do... And it's "Miller Time" when we're all through...* * New verse Cheerily, Charley Noble |
