Obama needs someone older than him with a lot of experience, to counter the "experience" problem with his negatives.

Which means an inside the Beltway Dem.

Daschle has been one of Obama's closest advisors, and still rules the roost within the pro-Obama faction of the utterly despicable DLC wing of the party.

It would be incestuous, to be sure, for Obama to pick Daschle. But politically it would be a very savvy move on his part.

It would also be a very "in your face" thing to do to the neo-cons, who still have that notch on their belt for targeting the Senate majority leader, and driving him out into the wilderness.

Richardson doesn't bring the goods the way Daschle does.

Richardson would also possibly be a good choice--especially in trying to anchor the Hispanic vote this year--which is likely to be essential. I wonder how many Hispanics agree with Carville's labeling of him. Obviously if many do, he'd not be a good choice. But since VP is often heir apparent, I'd think many Hispanics would be in favor of Richardson as VP.

His military credentials are not remotely comparable to Webb's. How important is that?   And you balance the chances of helping to bring Virginia along versus the attracting the nationwide Hispanic vote---which of course should be happening anyway --if Obama comes out strongly for a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants, without first insisting on the "border security" chimera, and pushes hard for real health-care reform--not the "market-based" reform McCain will offer.

I have a strong feeling it might be Richardson, I think he is fully qualified. Only potential problem with that is he comes from such a small state, population wise, and Obama might choose someone from more of a major player-Pennsylvania, Ohio, etc. A good VP pick can definitely add to the vote total.

I wonder why Webb did not make the Post list. He would provide rock-hard military credibility--especially considering his Vietnam service--and might help bring Virginia along. I would bet that Obama can get Ohio without Strickland--since it's a state in economic distress--and McCain's base will only allow "market-based solutions"--a Bandaid on a gaping wound. Also Obama can be far more credible on health-care reform--again McCain is hamstrung by a restriction to "market-based solutions"--shorthand for making the sick pay more.

It won't be necessary to pick a woman for VP if Obama makes it blazingly clear he is against any attack on Roe v Wade--and you can't say the same for McCain, to put it mildly. And strongly advocating health-care reform--with specifics, a la Hillary, will help with her voters. Especially since Obama is in fact in favor of health care reform. McCain--not exactly--only if it's done through "the market". Which, as I said, boils down to making the sick pay more.

So far as the Bill Clinton option goes, I can't see how that 22nd Amendment would be relevant, and would make him ineligible to be elected VP.

On the face of it, it just means he can't be "elected" president again. But a vice president who becomes president because a vacancy arises hasn't in fact been "elected" president, but has succeeded to it by virtue of being next in line next in line.

And the Twelfth Amendment doesn't alter matters - "no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States." But being ineligible to be elected President is not the same as being ineligible to actually be president through some other mechanism which does'nt involve being elleced to the position.

Of course the Supreme Court might be quite capable of deciding that the words didn't mean what they said and meant something else, and it wouldn't be the first time that's happened. But until and unless that has happened the clear meaning of the amendments is the one that holds.

But I think it's fairly safe to anticipate that the situation isn't going to arise. Not even if Mrs Clinton were the Democratic presidential nominee.

I liked what I saw of Chris Dodd this morning. Lots o people like Sibelius..I know nothing about her but a woman would be good...

I want edwards for attorney general, although ti sounds like he is arguing for a new anti-poverty cabinet post...not a bad idea...General Honore for FEMA or homeland security...I like Maria Cantwell..Richardson ..I don't think a good match for Obama just style-wise..they don't match. Defense? He needs a very very good one who he will listen to. Health???

Ohio's Governor, Ted Strictland, is being talked about as someone who, as a strong Clinton supporter, might be attractive to Obama in terms of gettin' the Clinton's to play nice and also giving Obama a leg uip on Ohio, perhaps western Pennstylvania to go with Philly and as a pure political choice, might be helpfull???
