I have an idea. Either we should shove all this crap into ONE day each year -- say Midsummer's Day, for example, and celebrate Love, Jesus, Mom, Dad, Thanks, Independence, Liberty, Labor, and dead soldioers all on the same day in one fell swoop. OR we should sprinkle bits of them across 356 days a year, so EVERY day is full of love, Jesus, remembering dead soldiers, hugs for moms and dads, thanks and so on ad nauseam.

The disadvantages to solution #1 are that we would spend a huge amount of money on one day every year, offset by the savings throughout the rest of the year. Logistics would be warped around that one day. But we'd get it over with and be able to do something meaningful or useful with the time saved.

The disadvantage of the second method is no-one would get much done before around 11 AM, because it would take them that long to say good morning at the office--maybe we could just use one word to mean "All the good stuff". Perhaps we could steal "Kwanzaa", since very few people know what it means anyway.

Tesco had various stuff in on Friday. Trust me, you will only hear me say 'I've started Christmas shopping' when there's a 'D' in the month

Christmas biscuits in the local Co-Op store yesterday. And I saw a display of Christmas cards a couple of weeks ago.

I've also heard my first: "Well, I've finished my Christmas shopping." This was countered by a more down-to-earth colleague saying: "I've finished Christmas shopping for this year. And next year. And the year after that ..."

We were commenting only yesterday that only one shop had it's Hallowe'en stuff out - and that it would have to shift it fast to get Christmas underway before the month was out. Some cool blood spatter gel stickers to pacify even my CSI-crazy daughter... we may invest. :D

However, Hobbycraft stores were selling Christmas sewing kits (cards, take about 4 hours start to finish) back in July.

I asked someone in a Foley's department store (bought up by Macy's a couple of years ago) why they had their ornaments up so early. The store wasn't decorated, but there was an area that is expanded later in the season to a full-blown tree and house ornament department. She said that designers and planners would come in that early to start picking up and planning for the season, and that people who shipped ornaments wanted to get their products out early. That made sense, and it didn't hit the whole store for a couple of more months. We used to enjoy going to take a peek at the new ornaments for the season, but you could walk away from it and that was it.

The grocery stores are probably all ready to push Valentine's Day stuff out next month. . . :)

I think this must be a *first*: a display of Christmas cakes, mince pies, Christmas puddings and goodness knows what else Christmassy on sale today, 7th September, in my local Sainsbury's supermarket.

I thought it was crazy enough yesterday when I spotted some Halloween bits and bobs in M&S - but this Christmas stuff just takes the biscuit ! (or..in this case...the "Taste the Difference brandy pudding").

No wonder grumpy old women like me complain that time seems to be going by so much faster these days. It's not just an illusion of old age, it's this totally daft marketing ahead of season. They were "Back to School" this year before the poor little mites had even left !

Next time I go into Sainsbury's, I shall protest loudly. Much good may it do....but it will be fun.

Can anyone beat 7th September for seeing the Christmas stuff ?
