Subject: RE: BS: my kind of new year's resolution From: gnu Date: 06 Jan 09 - 03:07 PM I resolve to do nice things for other people even when they tell me they would rather I didn't. I also resolve to do those nice things before seekeing their permission in case they tell me they would rather I didn't. F*** em if they can't take a nice. |

Subject: RE: BS: my kind of new year's resolution From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 06 Jan 09 - 11:11 AM Well, well, it is so nice to read these friendly responses. Ebbie, thanks for the tips about Peterson's rock garden, etc. And the birds. Open mike, I think you forgot to post the recipe. Or is this a case of blue-clicky failure? I would be interested in hearing what other people's 'happy resolutions' are. Next year I believe I'll formulate one which involves buying the biggest box of Crayons there is. When I was a kid, I always longed for the big box, but the answer was always 'no.' But for this year, I have enough resolutions. |

Subject: RE: BS: my kind of new year's resolution From: open mike Date: 05 Jan 09 - 10:00 PM here is a recipe for artichoke dip with spinach....i would recommend you save the water for soup stock instead of discarding it, though. |

And I bet we'd all balance our complexions and improve our checking weight accounts (bla bla etc.) quite nicely as a consequence of fulfilling some genuine 'soul impulses' for a change. Rather than obsessing over those things with which the advertisers wish to make us all terminally dissatisfied with ourselves and unhappy (and thus more likely to do all those things which perpetuate the cycle...) Good call. |

Subject: RE: BS: my kind of new year's resolution From: wysiwyg Date: 05 Jan 09 - 01:05 PM I think I would love it if you embroidered some hankies for me, because my resolution is to buy a few new ones, inexpensively, in men's sizes (which lack adornment). ~Susan |

Subject: RE: BS: my kind of new year's resolution From: Ebbie Date: 05 Jan 09 - 12:49 PM In Oregon there are a number of places where you can find and dig or buy pretty minerals. Over at Mitchell in Eastern Oregon in the Painted Hills area there is a place where for a nominal fee you are issued a bucket and pick and an area to dig in- whatever you find is yours. My favorite place is in Central Oregon, and danged if I haven't forgotten its name. It is in the Terrebonne area, not far from Smith Rock (a premium rock climb for the hardy from all over the world), also not too far from Prineville. It is "something, something" Rock Garden, a place where in addition to the building where they have all these marvelous rocks, they also turn on black light where you can see all the different colors and shades that individual minerals emit, they also have pools and ponds shaded by large trees where ducks and geese and peacocks swim and strut, followed by their babies. Neat place. Ah ha! I have remembered: it is "Peterson's Rock Garden". |

Subject: BS: my kind of new year's resolution From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 05 Jan 09 - 12:37 PM Been thinking about new year's resolutions, most of which seem to be inspired by the media. Have you noticed that they all imply that there's something wrong with me, something I ought to fix in order not to offend the journalists among us? They think I should lose weight, clear up my complection, balance my checking account every few days, and never be cranky. Every year they think this. The heck with that. I've decided that happy resolutions are just as good, and I've resolved the following: I am going to go to Oregon and see my friend Amy. Also birdwatch. This idea, which has been on the backburner for years, is now scheduled, and the bird-watching hotspots identified. I am going to buy pretty minerals for my rock collection. I am going to get out the embroidery floss and embroider something. I am going to plant some new flowers, something nobody else grows around here. I am going to visit the mansion and gardens of the Kansas governor, possibly the finest gubernatorial spread in the country. I bet the bird-watching's good there. I am going to learn how to make artichoke dip. Whadya think? |
