Subject: RE: BS: Best cheap airline tix? From: jacqui.c Date: 30 Jan 09 - 12:46 PM The buses into Boston are pretty good, more reliable, I believe, and more frequent than rail services. They also drop you off directly outside the terminal. |

Subject: RE: BS: Best cheap airline tix? From: artbrooks Date: 30 Jan 09 - 09:46 AM Yeah, but SW gives you boarding numbers, so that if you check three people in at exactly 24 hours prior (on line only), they will have (for example) boarding passes A17, A18 and A19, and you board in numerical order. |

Subject: RE: BS: Best cheap airline tix? From: Rapparee Date: 30 Jan 09 - 09:26 AM My wife and I fly Southwest a lot. It's inexpensive, but remember that there are NO assigned seats. Check in online 24 hours before your flight and as close to the flight time as possible -- say you're flying on Tuesday at 11 a.m., so you want to check in on Monday as close to 11 a.m. as you can. Get them all checked in at the same time and they're more likely to find seats together. Check also on the policy for families traveling with children under 12 years old. |

Subject: RE: BS: Best cheap airline tix? From: PoppaGator Date: 30 Jan 09 - 01:47 AM Jet Blue flies between Denver and Boston four times a day: a couple of nonstops, the others via JFK in New York. Fares range from $129 to $159 per round trip (depending upon day of the week, etc.), same price for adults and kids. If this is sufficiently cheaper than your alternatives, it might be worth the extra trouble of driving all the way to Boston. Yeah, I know, you have to drive to and through Boston to get to Logan Airport, which is a drag. Maybe there's a way to make that hop by rail rather than car ~ ?? JetBlue also flies in and out of Hyannis, Nantucket, the Vineyard, and P-town, but not Providence or anywhere in Connecticut. I wouldn't think any of those airports would help you. Also, you'd probably have to fly via Boston anyway, probably changing planes for a small island-hopper to a full-size transcontinental jet, and payng extgrga for the privilege. I know the airline had a couple of bad days and got some bad press last year, but my family and I have been flying JetBlue between New York and New Orleans for years and recommend it highly. Every seat has its own TV and headset, the snacks are OK (better than a lot of reheated airplane-food "full meals"), and they also allow (even encourage) you to bring your own meal on board. Most folks who carry their lunch have something they bought on the airport concourse, but I can't see any reason why you couldn't bring something from home. www.jetblue.com JetBlue internet info is available only through their own website ~ never on Travelocity, etc. The same is true of Southwest, another inexpensive choice. You might also check Continental; before JetBlue, Continental often had the lowest fare New Orleans to Newark, whenever Southwest wasn't better. |

Subject: RE: BS: Best cheap airline tix? From: katlaughing Date: 30 Jan 09 - 12:27 AM Oh, sorry, should have said, she'll fly out of Bradley, near Hartford, though, if I can get it cheaper, from the airport in Providence, RI, she could do that, too. They will come to Grand Junction, CO OR possibly Denver, but I really want to avoid having to drive over there to get them. I'll check Orbitz, thanks! |

Subject: RE: BS: Best cheap airline tix? From: artbrooks Date: 30 Jan 09 - 12:24 AM Where is she coming from? Southwest (on line) generally has the best deals, but their routes are limited. Last time I used one of the price choppers, I got a ticket from Albuquerque to Pensacola through Orbitz for about $200 less than with Travelocity. |

Subject: BS: Best cheap airline tix? From: katlaughing Date: 30 Jan 09 - 12:16 AM Kyrstie, my daughter back East, with my twin grandsons, Elijah and Akira, has a chance to possibly come visit me. We have not seen each other since the boys were born almost eleven years ago. She's only got a week around the 4th of July to come out with them. Any of you have any special tricks for getting the cheapest possible flights? I just checked Expedia and Cheaptickets and they both came up with about $516 per person, which is more than she can swing. She thought by buying early, she might get a better deal. Any tips, ideas, stories of experience gladly welcomed! Thanks! |
