KPFA in Berkeley has been a leader in the grass roots /people's voice
for 6 decades now! they were one of the first stations to stream, and also back in the day, in order to be heard, they had to give out f.m. radios as few people had them.

KPFK is in L.A.

WBAI is the affilliate, sister station in New York

Hooray for PUBLIC radio...support your local station...
or your long-distance streaming one!

Pacifica was a voice of sanity when I lived in the bay area. Limbaugh and Micheal Savage were just getting underway.

The first experiment withlistener sponsored radio that has consistently stood up against the madness and provided a trusted source of information that was available no where else is now 60 years old.

They are the mother of the very concept of a national pulic radio station.

When they began there were virtually no FM radios and disbelief that anyone would pay for something they could get for free. KPFA is still on the air dispite numerous attempts to shut them down by the goverment and by greedy board members.

You used to be able to hear live the the voices of Dylan Thomas, Ginsberg, Linus Pauling, Edward Teller, Joe McCarthy, Alan Watts, Dick Gregory and views expressed from all sides of an issue.

They were there for HUAC, The Cuban Crisis, The Viet Nam War and always let us know that politicians would never tell us the truth but there were still sources we could trust.

If you would like to know more the documentary 'KPFA on the air'
should be able to be viewed online.
