I gotta really look up to Obama now. I am very rarely able to snatch a flie out of the air opn the first try ~ he made it look easy, and VERY cool.

Has PETA just lost the last shred of credibility they might have had with everyone except high school girls?

Letterman had the story on his show too. The President is sitting there talking, kills the fly and then this HUGE monster fly swoops in and carries the president off. Very well done.

And on NBC, with a most bemused look on his face, Brian Williams recounted the story. Evidently, PETA had responded with something like: 'President Obama is not a Buddhist, he is a human being. We have far to go before we have evolved...'

Something like that. It bums me out that these organizations - that I would LIKE to support - are so just plain dumb. "Pets are People too" pfuuiii!

Well, it's a good thing that Obama did not swallow that fly, or we'd be composing a commemorative ditty.

I actually enjoy seeing such a news story on CNN, assuming the rest of the world is really not generating relevant news.

Yeah, I just picked up today's edition of "The Fly Times" and there on the cover is a big picture of Obama with a bold headline that reads "Genocide"...

Hey, wouldn't he have had to kill more than one fly for it to fall into the genocide category???

Murderer would have been more accurate... Unless, of course, someone has pictorial evidence that Obama has a history of fly murder...

Keelhauling was a process whereby a sailor was tied to a long rope and then passed under the entire keel of the ship from bow to stern as the ship was sailing along. He was then hauled out of the water at the stern end and brought back onboard to see if he was still alive. Very few men survived the experience, so it was considered tantamount to capital punishment...only meted out for a very serious infraction of the rules.

There have been some British warships named the "Resolution" (at least one battleship I know of anyway), but this desk was made from the timbers of the "Resolute". I wonder how Bill Clinton would have handled a major spill like this one?

Oh MY! oh DEAR ME! I was SHOCKED!

WASHINGTON - A member of the media accidentally knocked a glass of water across President Barack Obama's desk on Friday.

As she was hustling into place, a sound technician working for a non-U.S. media organization hit the glass with the long handle of the boom microphone she was carrying. The mishap splashed water across Obama's famous but mostly empty desk.

The whack of the glass against the desk startled Obama, who did not see what happened. He was across the room with Zimbabwe's prime minister, Morgan Tsvangirai, for the start of their brief comments to the media - an event that is known in White House parlance as, fittingly enough, a pool spray.

"Uh oh," Obama said. He asked what got hit and was told it was the water glass.

Meanwhile, staff members worked quickly to sop up the spill.

"All right," Obama said with a smile. "It's the Resolution Desk. It's only like 100 years old."

Alas, the president was off a bit.

It is actually the Resolute Desk, made from the timbers of a British ship of the same name.

He was fairly close about the age of the desk, famously known for a photo showing John F. Kennedy's son, little John-John, poking his head out of a door. The desk was presented to President Rutherford B. Hayes in 1880 and has been used by almost every president ever since.
