This makes sense because Jimmy thinks it is better if a person has their own interpretation of his songs because this is much more important than knowing what the true meaning of the song is. |

I actually play "ride on" by including a hammered on C chord(well- some of it) on the way to the F. People who have heard me play it say it sounds good. (Though they can't explain their poor taste!) The Alison I knew was here in Sydney for about 9 months then returned to Ireland a couple of years ago (have you come back?). Fair hair, medium height and build. She gave me her spare set of Susato whistles as a parting gift. Does this ring a bell? I haven't yet looked at the Jimmy MacCarthy website which someone mentioned somewhere, but maybe that's where the meaning of the lyrics might be found. Jan |

Subject: RE: Ride on From: Jan Date: 13 Oct 99 - 02:22 AM A couple of years ago I met a young Irish whistle player in Sydney, Australia (where I live) and she said she had met the person who wrote the song (whose name I've forgotten) and he (the composer) said that it was not a love song at all, as most of us had assumed, but a rebel song! I cannot vouch for the authenticity of this piece of information, but this girl seemed like a very reliable source - she was a lovely, no bull type of person with a great generousity of spirit (and boy, could she play that whistle!). If it is a rebel song, the lyrics seem equally, if not more, inexplicable. So I'm afraid I've probably just confused the issue. Anybody else got any further info? Jan |

It was not the Christy that I knew and loved from a number of previous performances, BUT the manners of the audience were deplorable - sad to say, constantly yelling out requests during breals and other songs. I would've walked off stage! By contrast a guitarist I know saw him a week or so later at a small venue in the bush, and in his opinion that concert was truly magical. I wish him every luck.
