Subject: RE: BS: New Written Language Discovered From: Darowyn Date: 14 May 10 - 04:10 AM The principle of Occam's Razor was set out in former Pictish territory. It proposes that the simplest explanation is most likely to be the correct one. I suspect, using that principle, that a picture of a hunting scene, probably represents a scene of people hunting. Subject: RE: BS: New Written Language Discovered From: Riginslinger Date: 13 May 10 - 11:52 PM I've found it kind of weird, trying to find something out about the Picts. Nobody seems to know much about them. Maybe this language revolation will shine some light on them. |

Subject: RE: BS: New Written Language Discovered From: mousethief Date: 11 May 10 - 10:28 PM What does that have to do with what I said? Maybe the mention of alphabets confused you. Linear A had an analogue. This purported script does not. |

Subject: RE: BS: New Written Language Discovered From: Rapparee Date: 11 May 10 - 09:04 PM Assuming that it is "alphabetical" in some way. I wouldn't discount the idea of engraved pictographs or petroglyphs -- I should say, "drawings" that recorded events. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: New Written Language Discovered From: mousethief Date: 11 May 10 - 07:35 PM Yes but we are pretty danged sure that Linear A is a language because it uses the same "alphabet" (well, syllabary) as Linear B. We have no such parallels with this new Pictish "language". |
|
Subject: RE: BS: New Written Language Discovered From: Rapparee Date: 11 May 10 - 07:30 PM There are other written languages waiting for "decoding" -- Linear A, for example. |

Subject: RE: BS: New Written Language Discovered From: mousethief Date: 11 May 10 - 07:20 PM There's a lot of "maybe" in the article -- yes, maybe it's a script. It may have to do with a spoken language. The knots may be part of the script. Perhaps they will find a pictish Rosetta Stone. If not I don't how if any putative decoding of the putative script could be anything but conjecture. |

Subject: BS: New Written Language Discovered From: maple_leaf_boy Date: 11 May 10 - 06:03 PM An ancient written language has been discovered. I found the video on facebook. Has anyone seen this yet? Article |
