Oh dear! I forgot that on yesterday's date in 1813, the 104th Foot Regiment of mostly Irish and Scots New Brunswickers began their march from Fredericton, New Brunswick up the St. John river in dangerously low temperatures and bad weather, traversed the Madawaska Snow Road and arrived in Uppity Canada in time to save Canada from the scourge of Yankee imperialism during the War of 1812.

Yer welcome Canada. And, yer welcome for the railroad... yer welcome for the Seaway... yer welcome for all the "wood, wind and water" and labour and educated people who built this country that came from The Maritimes. Now, could you give us a fuckin break, EH?

What could be more serious than starting a war on the basis of a lie? Sure it was a long time ago, but it's still going on!And the bastards who started it get away with it.
Those who fail to learn from history, etc.

Well, yeah, seems my great great grand daddy was on the Maine and he wrote in his journal that there was a card game goin' on in the lower belly of this ship and some fuss and then some fightin' and then an oil lamp got knocked over and...

...so we had our first war started over a f'n poker game...

Well, better than George W's excuses for Iraq... I mean, cheatin' at card is some serious shit!!!

As fir the rest of this thread??? Some un-serious shit... But good un-serious shit...

On this date in 1898, the battleship MAINE exploded in Havana harbor. Of course it was blamed on Spain, so we needed a reason to go to war and take away the Spanish possessions around the world, which we did.
Wm. Randolph Hurst cranked up his yellow journalism, and presto! we had bases all over the world as any self respecting imperial power has a right to.
Years later it was learned that Spain was not to blame, that it was an internal explosion. not a mine.
I wonder why we didn't give back Cuba, the Philippines, Guam, etc.

Beautiful animals. That first horse just takes my breath away. Minds me of one my old man's cousin had. Gentle as a lamb and Tiny could pull as many cord a wood as you could pile on the sleigh. He could twitch long ones in tight quarters by himself in warm weather. Sheer horsepower. He even liked baloney sandwiches until I got caught feeding them to him... I was 9 years old. Just carrots after I got caught.

Uh, well Jeri....hmmm...actually they can be. The genetics of coat color on horses is really a fascinating kind of subject and also kind of screwy. And silly as it seems, black bay is a pretty apt descrition for this color of horse. Karen had a Tennessee Walker black bay mare. SHe was a pretty thing.....dumber that a box of rocks but friendly and gorgeous.

Black Bay----Scroll Down

LOL Sins......Didja' know that BF Goodrich also made condoms called Zips? Although they were easy to put on, the pain level in using them was so high they removed them from the market. BFG couldn't absorb the loss so they paid minimum wage people to put pinholes in each one and modify the label to read "Zaps" instead. The real zap came 9 months after they were used............

There are some Canucks, especially out west, who don't trust our own French Canadians. Silly twits. But, then again, Quebec poutine might be an example of their sneaky plan to take over by artery blockage. Beware. And, what about Montreal smoked meat sandwiches? AND the fact that they produce more than four times as much maple slurpup as everyone else combined? Oh dear. TO THE RAMPARTS!

But she wasn't French or Canadian. Irish actually...

The Zips were overshoe style boots that every kid used to have. The buckle type were also popular but Zips were much easier to use and didn't freeze your fingers taking them off. You don't see galoshes or overboots anymore.........and BF Goodrich, a fine American car parts supplier, was bought out by Michelin.

This was yet another move by the the French to try and get even for losing Canada to the Brits. They haven't bothered much with good English products as most English products, especially in the automotive field, never were all that good and have for the most part, and to continue in a scatalogical vein, not worth a crap from the gitgo. This all leads back to some Treaty or another signed a long time ago by some dead guys............

Well, bobad... don't hold your breath. Things are about to get as bad as the Yanks and some Canucks think (think???) it is down south. I ain't gonna get into why, but it's comin. I see it here more and more every day.

Arab spring? Anarchy? Crime? Can't happen here? What just happened with the laws in The States doesn't even have to happen here. You've heard of The War Measures Act right? A 2nd amendment is the only thing between the people being able to take down the government and being taken down by the government.

People are having a hard (harder, every day) time feeding their families and Harper is gonna pet pandas and save us all. We are not more civilized. We are more trusting of our government... and THAT is naive. Harper is not Douglas... not Trudeau... not Caouette... he is a wolf in cheap cloaking.

Could we get some Canadians in here please to see if they give two shits?   Unless you live in Quebec and have one of those hard-ons for being French, I think most Canadians are reasonably happy. I like what parts of the place I've seen and their ratio of fuckwits to ours is similar (Spaw vs. Hawk = toss up......see?).

Now if they had real money that didn't sound, look, and feel, like something from the third world, they'd have it bagged!

Like Jim I have my doubts that the Canadians view themselves as being given, but as the treaty was a result of multi-sided negotiations I suppose that some people might see it that way.

What aspect of the treaty has its anniversary on February 10th I am unsure, but the Treaty signature page shows September 3rd.

France gave up its claim to Canada. Sorry about that.
At the start of the revolution, many loyalists left the colonies and moved to Canada. I don't know who got the better of that deal.
In my not so humble opinion, if Canada had a 2nd amendment it would be close to being the perfect country.
Of course, being more civilized than the USA, they probably don't need a 2nd amendment.
