He also fought against Oswald Moseley and his odourous cohorts in the East End of London. He was put into an orphanage at the age of 5 by a mother who couldn't cope. he went back to live with her when he was 11, and eventually she apprenticed him to an hairdresser. I think he did extremely well, from such humble, and difficult beginnings. He was Jewish, so his action s were understandable, no matter how much it clashes with your present beliefs. It was before many of you were born, and you cannot judge people's action then, by the values and beliefs of today.

It was such a great difference to stop all that back-combing and beehiving, making ones hair look like a bird's nest. The smooth and beautifully cut styles were easy to care for and looked simple but elegant. I well remember going up to London at that time with my two friends to Carnaby Street, and seeing all the young women strolling about looking like Twiggy, and the men wearing kipper ties. How amazing that he was 84 years old, time whizzes by! RIP Vidal.
