How strange! I've just looked up Peter Kay and although he was born and bred in Bolton Lancashire, he too is of Irish descent!

I can't get my head round this obsession with buying a 'Christmas jumper' and wearing it everywhere. My husband wants one now. I told him he'd look a twat but he still eyes them longingly. I suppose he'd better get one. But I'm not having him prancing about in reindeer antlers or pixie ears.

I wonder if M&S got the needed permissions
or if the musicians might sue them ...

Ah thank you keberoxu for that. The video (on Youtube) seems to show the St Patrick's Day processions etc in New York, and there is indeed a lot of Irish stuff in it.
But 'pack it oop pack it in' sounds so like Peter Kay, or someone else who cooms from oop North.
I'd never heard of House of Pain.
I really like the advert now,and turn the sound up (or should I say 'oop'?) when it comes on!

Eliza, I'm so out of circulation here in the US
that I have managed to evade the artist and his music completely.
So, I am just reading what is online.

Erik "Everlast" Schrody was interviewed, in 1999, by
the Washington Post.

The interview states that his birthplace is Long Island, New York,
although much of his life has been lived on the West Coast.

"Jump Around", in the interview, is said to date from 1992.
The article says, about House of Pain,
"Their shtick was Irish hip-hop --
all shamrocks and shillelagh and 'fine malt' lyrics ... Their first single, 'Jump Around,' was a huge hit."

I didn't write that, honest -- just looked it up.

Sorry, that should say 1992 when the song first became a hit.

This TV ad has been on a few times (It's about buying/wearing a M&S Christmas jumper) and I've discovered the song 'Jump Around' is by House of Pain. Now this is apparently an American rap group from the late 1980's.

What puzzles me is that the lead singer/rapper Everlast has a most convincing and distinctive Lancashire accent, and the song starts with, "Pack it oop, pack it in, let me begin...". He's called Erik Schrody and was born and bred in New York.
What I'd like to know is, where did Everlast get this excellent Lancashire send-up accent? He seems to have more Irish connections than Lancashire.
I would never have guessed he's a New Yorker!
Can anyone enlighten me?
