Subject: RE: BS: New Issue of Stamps by Royal Mail From: JHW Date: 27 Jun 20 - 06:56 AM There's an ad above for Folk in a Field Festival- Set in Stunning Woodlands. Packed audience with doubtful 2mm spacing. And the Queen? Royal Mail or Royal Female. |

Subject: RE: BS: New Issue of Stamps by Royal Mail From: Mr Red Date: 25 Jun 20 - 04:34 AM It is a money spinning venture, but then so is Queen. Long May (sic) they reign. |

Subject: RE: BS: New Issue of Stamps by Royal Mail From: Jos Date: 24 Jun 20 - 10:36 AM I think the main reason for producing commemorative stamps, apart from the Christmas ones, is to sell them to stamp collectors. They aren't really bothered about whether people use them for posting letters. |

Subject: RE: BS: New Issue of Stamps by Royal Mail From: Nigel Parsons Date: 24 Jun 20 - 10:04 AM On the Royal Mail pages the Queen does appear to be looking down her nose at Freddy's armpits! Here with details for ordering. |

Subject: RE: BS: New Issue of Stamps by Royal Mail From: Stilly River Sage Date: 24 Jun 20 - 09:51 AM This page mentions the Queen stamps, then goes on to offer a look at US stamps with various musical performers. This appears to be the postal sale point for the Queen stamps. Here is a Google search that manages to capture the images of each; the online stories I found each only included a couple of the stamps. BoingBoing gives you a look at three of them. |

Subject: RE: BS: New Issue of Stamps by Royal Mail From: Senoufou Date: 24 Jun 20 - 03:37 AM Hello there Gallus! I've sung that song many a time in Edinburgh (folk club). Wasn't it called Scottish Breakaway by Hamish Imlach? I can't myself see what the blooming queen has got to do with the Post. I'd rather see a photo of Freddie Mercury than her 'heid'. The pic they've chosen of him for the first class stamp is lovely. I've always liked Queen - very powerful music. I often watch the TV channel 'Now Eighties', and they often play the video to 'I've Got To Break Free' where Freddie is in drag pushing a hoover. Always makes me die laughing. Still think 'We Are The Stampions' is funny too.:) |

Subject: RE: BS: New Issue of Stamps by Royal Mail From: Gallus Moll Date: 23 Jun 20 - 06:19 PM Hi Senoufou - i am more likely to make a fuss about the royal heid being on the stamps!!! Back in the day i used to put stamps on either upside down or with lizzie the FIRST of the united kingdomS face down!!! OK i was a schoolwean then - just a bit too young to have participated in the blowing up of pillar boxes in protest....but as a primary child I wrote a letter to her at buckinghsm palace to ask why she had appointed herself liz the twa instead of the wan - the person replying (not her!!) stated that she could call herself whatever she wanted!!! Ggggrrrrr - roll on our independent republic!!! |

Subject: RE: BS: New Issue of Stamps by Royal Mail From: JHW Date: 23 Jun 20 - 04:45 PM UK Christmas stamp routine so I was told was alternate years Christian Theme or Just Festive. How many other faiths worldwide no idea. I dare say the new Q stamps come in various money sizes but when one posts a parcel they just stick on the label thing rather than stamps so stamps get sidelined. |

Subject: RE: BS: New Issue of Stamps by Royal Mail From: Senoufou Date: 23 Jun 20 - 03:59 PM Hee hee Jos! I used to collect stamps years ago, but gave my collection to my nieces. I suppose one shouldn't judge young folk who don't know about religions, cultures and depiction of them. But our National Curriculum has a wide range of such subjects which teachers should be delivering to their students. I'm not a Muslim or a Hindu, bur I should say I know quite a bit about their beliefs and tenets. There has been some controversy here about religious illustrations on stamps though. |

Subject: RE: BS: New Issue of Stamps by Royal Mail From: Jos Date: 23 Jun 20 - 03:45 PM "The lady and the baby" reminds me of the story going around some years ago of someone in a jeweller's shop choosing a silver cross on a chain, and being asked "Do you want one with a little man on it?" |

Subject: RE: BS: New Issue of Stamps by Royal Mail From: Stilly River Sage Date: 23 Jun 20 - 03:35 PM Not an observant xtian, but not necessarily ignorant. Cultural literacy is a thing, and it varies depending on age, religion (or lack of it), etc. Do you collect stamps? |

Subject: RE: BS: New Issue of Stamps by Royal Mail From: Senoufou Date: 23 Jun 20 - 03:27 PM Gosh Stilly, that's a long wait! As you say, it must be the reduction in the number of flights carrying post. At Christmas time, the Royal Mail issued some stamps depicting various Nativity scenes. I heard that a rather ignorant young lady in a Post Office near London asked a customer if they wanted 'the one with the lady and the baby on it?' |

Subject: RE: BS: New Issue of Stamps by Royal Mail From: Stilly River Sage Date: 23 Jun 20 - 02:18 PM I have a CD disk on order that for some reason is being shipped from the UK (it's by American artist Rhiannon Giddens). The arrival time is suggested to be a month. I imagine that mail within the UK is moving like usual, but it isn't crossing the pond with any alacrity because there are so few flights (that carry mail in the cargo hold). Who knows when we might get to see those stamps? You're lucky they're putting the group on stamps; in the US an individual has to be dead for at least 10 years before the USPS will consider putting them on postage. |

Subject: BS: New Issue of Stamps by Royal Mail From: Senoufou Date: 23 Jun 20 - 01:34 PM I see that Royal Mail will be issuing some new stamps on July 9th, celebrating Queen. Each of the group's members has a stamp with his photo on. What made me smile were the suggestions for changing the names of some of their songs:- Don't Post Me Now Who Wants To Lick Forever We Are The Stampions Night At The Post Office Pillar Queen The Queen's head will still be a silhouette in the corner as usual. I like stamps (bit of a nerd) These look interesting. |
