Subject: RE: Lyr Req: John Martyn Song From: The Shambles Date: 01 Aug 04 - 10:43 AM The following is a fine site and has a lot of info on all the recorded work and has all the lyrics, even though it may not be obvious how to find them. The answer is to find out what CD the song you are interested in, is on. Then to find the title and then click on the 'pencil' icon. http://home.wanadoo.nl/hvandenberk/records.htm#top |

Subject: Lyr Add: DUSTY (John Martyn) From: The Shambles Date: 31 Jul 04 - 03:56 PM http://home.wanadoo.nl/hvandenberk/lyrics/lyr02-07.htm From the above site Dusty Nico, two-headed Cuban giant, He's looking with all of his eyes At the colours that fall through the chestnut-tree night, 'Cause tomorrow in London they rise. And don't you know that I'm dusty, too, Don't you know that I'm dusty through and through... The candy floss lady is looking at me Though she never has seen me before. She knows that I'm selling, let her buy all she has And then maybe come back for some more. And don't you know that I'm dusty, too, Don't you know that I'm dusty through and through... Roundabouts roundabout all closing down, And the men of the goldfish are gone. The cars and the arms are all tired now, And the lights on the grass are down. And don't you know that I'm dusty, too, Don't you know that I'm dusty through and through... Nico, two-headed Cuban giant, He's looking with all of his eyes At the colours that fall through the chestnut-tree night, Because tomorrow in London they rise. And don't you know that I'm dusty, too, Don't you know that I'm dusty through and through... |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: John Martyn Song From: GUEST,Ewan McVicar Date: 03 Mar 01 - 05:36 AM I first knew John in Glasgow when he was still Ian McGeachy - he had to change it to get gigs in London. At that time he always had to play his songs in the same order, as he could not figure out what actual tuning he was in at any time but the start, only how to get from one song to the next. Incidentally, the early song The Gardeners is not his. It was written by Bill Lyons of Boston Mass, I sang it, John got it from me, and the record company would never correct the label! |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: John Martyn Song From: Crowhugger Date: 22 Feb 00 - 03:23 AM Gotcha, Bren -- I read it the other way. One of those cross-puddle differences? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: John Martyn Song From: GUEST,Brendy - elsewhere Date: 22 Feb 00 - 03:20 AM NO NO NO NO, Crowhugger!!!!! Not the D UP to F The G DOWN to F. You frightened me for a minute. You were supposed to read the string setup as you would be looking from above at the guitar. And thank you John for the kind words. Yeah, 7, 17 who's counting. It must be something to do with my lack of inhibition!!!! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: John Martyn Song From: John Wood Date: 21 Feb 00 - 04:09 PM Aaaaaah. So thats why Brendy breaks so many strings. I think his record is something like 7 in one gig !! Greetings John PS.(But he's one hell of a guitarist) |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: John Martyn Song From: Crowhugger Date: 21 Feb 00 - 04:55 AM Yikes, Brendy-O, how many D-strings does that tuning cost you in a week? Lemme grab my safety goggles whilst I tune D up to F. Does your guitar get grumpy about holding the tuning when the tensions are so different from standard tuning? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: John Martyn Song From: Brendy Date: 20 Feb 00 - 09:50 PM Yo there Daithí. Crowhugger, you beat me to it - well, I didn't see this until now. Word perfect. As for the tuning; I do it DAFDAD and the way I worked it out it hardly differs from the chords in the 'No Little Boy' album. John Martyn has a delightful habit of 'inventing' tunings to suit his purpose, which makes learning the guitar parts a bit like having a finished crossword in front of you where you have to work out the exact wording of the clues. |
