The following is a fine site and has a lot of info on all the recorded work and has all the lyrics, even though it may not be obvious how to find them. The answer is to find out what CD the song you are interested in, is on. Then to find the title and then click on the 'pencil' icon.

I first knew John in Glasgow when he was still Ian McGeachy - he had to change it to get gigs in London. At that time he always had to play his songs in the same order, as he could not figure out what actual tuning he was in at any time but the start, only how to get from one song to the next. Incidentally, the early song The Gardeners is not his. It was written by Bill Lyons of Boston Mass, I sang it, John got it from me, and the record company would never correct the label!

Yikes, Brendy-O, how many D-strings does that tuning cost you in a week? Lemme grab my safety goggles whilst I tune D up to F. Does your guitar get grumpy about holding the tuning when the tensions are so different from standard tuning?

Crowhugger, you beat me to it - well, I didn't see this until now.
Word perfect. As for the tuning; I do it DAFDAD and the way I worked it out it hardly differs from the chords in the 'No Little Boy' album.

John Martyn has a delightful habit of 'inventing' tunings to suit his purpose, which makes learning the guitar parts a bit like having a finished crossword in front of you where you have to work out the exact wording of the clues.

While I don't have the chords, IMHExperience John Martyn pretty much lives in a world of minor sevenths - Am7, Dm7 ad infinitum.
