Got there Dave and clicking it works fine for me (calls WinRar in my case). I still think the problem has to be to do with file assosciations and would suggest.

a) I don't know your program but can you try re-installing it?

b) Can you open your program and then open an archive? If so have you tried it?

c) Consider installing Winzip as I know that one will perform the file assosciations for you.

d) Is it possible that the .zip file you downloaded is corrupt?

Not really Dave. I am just downloading the fall99.zip file (agian) to see what happens when I come to try to install it. Will report back later.

Any different ideas? I have PKUNZIP, and also now a renamed "America.exe". I have and am executing NetZip, and get nothing.

Forgot to add that the initial unzip is not dependent on any particular unzip program. The only part that requires that is SongWright. I am guessing here but as far as I can make out, the DT Database program calls PKUNZIP to extract the necessary file from the .zip file that contains the tunes for SongWrite to play it, calls SongWright suppliying that file name as a parameter and later deletes the file.

I hadn't realised that PKUNZIP was missing in the DT download and as Snuffy has said, it is required to play the tunes - there is no alternative.

Even if PKUNZIP is downloaded, this may be personal prefference but I would reccommend a Windows rather than a Dos based zip program for general use and would suggest Winzip is worth a try.

If PKUNZIP is to be used as the default program for unzipping files, I would suggest that rather than renaming a copy to America, a more complete solution would be to change the file assosciation for .zip files to point to this program.

But how will the residents of PKUNZIP feel? Do they WANT to be Americans or is their independence still first and foremost in their minds? Sometimes this superpower business tramples on the small folks.

The Fall 99 DT download needs to have a program called PKUNZIP.EXE if you want to play tunes. But it got left out of the download. No other zip program will work - not PKzip, not Winzip, because play.exe specifically opens PKUNZIP to get the tune.

It's available free off the net at may places - just type in PKUNZIP in your favourite search engine. And its only 30Kb, so it won't take hours to download.

You could try renaming one copy of PKUNZIP to AMERICA and see if that fixes it

Kendall, the text "PlayToNet" can be found in npevpcfg.dll which is the Hearme plugin for the Microphone Configuration. A search for this string in the Microsof support help files yeilds no results and a search for error 512 yeilds nothing that I could possibly relate to your Heame problem.

I have also tried searching the web only to discover that others appear to be as mystified as we are. With no support from Hearme and no other information, I am at a point where although I realise there must be a simple explaination, I would be considering re-installing Windows.

Thinking of Hearme, the last time I visited their site, I could not find any links to Voice Creator but they seem to be prlugging Voice Contact which is more like a voice based ICQ where you set up contact lists.

I have a horrible feeling that while Hearme are likely to continue to allow Voice Creator to access thier servers, they are trying to let it "fade away" and have no intention of offering any technical support let alone offering the Mac support for this product. I hope I am wrong.

America was found a long time ago by Christopher Columbus (and even earlier by Leif Erikson)
So Windows does not need to find America... ;-)

Now joke aside - I think Jon is right, the association of *.zip files with the unzipping program is lost and should be re-done by re-installing your unzipping program.

Dave, I have not heard of a program called America for opening .zip files so my guess is that something has gone wrong with the file assosciation.

What program do you normaly use for opening zip files? If you use Winzip for example, re-installing it should sort that problem out for you.

An alternative solution is to open Explorer and go to View/Folder Options/File Types and change the file assosciation there.

If you have not got a windows based zip/unzip program, I would suggest that you download WinZip and try it. It is shareware and should be easy to find on the internet.

I have downloaded the DT, and have the icon om the desktop. However, clicking produces only an error message to the effect, "Windows cannot find the file "America". This file is necessary to open files of the type ZIP."

FIND does not find either America or America.*.

Anybody got any ideas?
