Do you think Alanis will be available for harmony vocals? This is the one that could put you over the top.......the song certainly is!

I think I'm a binge listener, at least I am these days. Even in the mornings I immerse myself in whatever music I am 'steeping' myself in, for those few days. I alternate a bit (in other words I might have two CDs that I am digesting) ... I have my favorites that I return to. Thanks very much Rick, for listening to the CD, for playing it to your audience, and for your kind comments. I am going to try and figure out how to get to Toronto. I very much enjoyed the few trips I've made there over the years, and I would love to make it back there to sing.

There's a lot going on right now, but when the dust settles I'd like to look into some long range booking, and I definately want to come Toronto, if for no other reason then to say hello to you, Heather, and all the Mudcatters up that way! Thanks again.

Rick, perhaps you and Heather could get to work on your life's ambition as the man who would be Alanis. I mean finish the paper and then write some Alanis songs for yourself using this handy-dandy website that came up in another thread.

Bagpipes Before Breakfast - doesn't that sound like the name of an awful celtic band ? My Mrs. is very tolerent of my musical tastes and sometimes they are in sinc, but I can promise you that BBB would never fly. Do you remember the cartoon where the cat gets spooked and ends upside down on the ceiling hanging by its claws??? I think that's what would happen here. But thanks for the visual - I'll tell my wife so she can have a spousal appreciation moment.

Ya know what was great "morning music" for a while? Jimmy Cliff. Remember "The Harder They Fall"? Reggae is generally not my favourite form, but there was just a kind of "bounce" to it that got me goin'.

The only thing I can't do without though is the newspaper. For years I subscribed to all three dailies, in order to get the (slightly) left, right and centre take on issues. Too poor for that now. Before I have to give up my one newspaper though, I'll sell the cats!

Nice thought Rick.

I have heard Jed a lot on the Mudcat and I'm looking forward to getting the album. He is all you say and I hope you play him some on Acoustic Workshop.

Regarding your "breakfast" --- Since Karen has changed hospitals and shifts, our time together has come at better times and we enjoy it so much more. Seems odd that working a night shift could be beneficial to "together time" but its really been a blessing. It still gets a bit strange on the weekends, but things are so much better for the two of us when we have time alone to enjoy each other's company. And the boys get the benefit of that too. First though, she and I have the time to talk, listen, and share the things that best friends should.

I so agree, Wes! I used to have an alarm clock that would play tapes, so I always woke to bagpipes. (Much to the chagrin of Himself.) Coffee and quiet, softer stuff in the morning, then a little rowdier as the day progresses, IF I'm lucky enough to be at home.

There was a radio station in the area that used to have acoustic Sunday mornings. I heard a few good singer songwriters that way - but if I want to hear something really good I usually have to play something from my own collection. I tend to find that I play things of a softer nature in the morning { especially if my wife is still sleeping } often Mississippi John Hurt or something Celtic . Later in the day is when the bluegrass and blues comes out. I find that bluegrass or old time music is great for cleaning house or getting it together to get out the door.

One of the nicest results of Heather's leaving the corporate world two years ago is that we get to eat breakfast together. As a working gal, she had to get up at 7 am, and like a lotta musicians, I'm a night person....so she was on her own every morning (except for the cats).

These days we read the papers cover to cover, discuss the news, and listen to the new CDs sent to us for the radio show. This morning was extra special.

Got the new Jed Marum album "Streets of Fall River", and plunked it into the machine an hour ago. It's a fine collection of songs. The guitar, banjo and other instruments sound like they're supposed to, and I really like Jed's voice...good range too. He's a Texan now and sings about his roots and influences with a lot of conviction. Jed, if you ever make it to Toronto, you'll have a few fans waiting, 'cause I'm gonna play the heck out of this until there's a groundswell. (ya might even become a sex symbol!)

Morning always seems to be the best time for me to listen to new music....much easier to concentrate (even when reading the paper). Anyone else have musical breakfasts? Years ago I used to wake up every day to the happy notes of Bill Spence's dulcimer playing. Much less jarring than an alarm clock!
