McGrath, the provenance of 'Austra-laise' is that it was a poem written by C.J. Dennis, best known for his wonderful collection 'The Sentimental Bloke'. The initial version was entered in The Bulletin's competition for an Australian anthem in 1908 and won a special prize. It was revised in 1914 and widely reprinted. You are quite right - it was sung to the tune of 'Onward Christian Soldiers'.

--Stewie.

Go to "Quick links" at the top right of the threads page, scroll down and you'll see a link to "Alan's Mudcat MIDI page"..... failing that click here

you'll find many tunes that haven't found their way into the database yet...

if it's not that, it's pretty close. I think it's a matter of "insert yer own explitive deleted here". as far as provanence -"I got it from John"

Looks authentic enough, though I can't get my head round bobbing up and down to check the missing words. What's the tune and the provenance, as they say? I'd incline to sing it to Onward Christian Soldiers.

Lest someone accuse me of censoring these lyrics, may I say the following lyrics are reproduced exactly as printed. the blanks in the first verse(with necessary changes to get past a content filter) are in order bleed-in'; blood-y; f*ck-in'; blood-y; blood-y; & in the chorus: blood-y; blood-y; blood-y; f*ck-n'

To a . . . star
Let yer . . . watchword be
Australi. . .ar

chorus

'Ow's our . . . nation,
