That Rick, Art and Frank be invited to spend a night in the Lincoln bedroom - not on the same night, of course!

I think Carter was a good man. He had great difficulty with economic problems, but I'm not convinced he could have done much about that. I was told by someone who served in the White House during the Carter years, and had a very responsible job, that one of Carter's problems was that he never mastered the art of working with the congress.

I think without a doubt, he has been the best former president we have had in my lifetime.

Spaw, I kind of think the same thing about him- he's the first president I ever voted successfully for, and I still admire him no end- but maybe he's kind of like Nader: good at what he's doing now. We don't need them pushed to their level of incompetency!

After becoming the best former president in history, I'd like to see ol' Jimmy back in the White House to see if he couldn't do it better.

I want a president who didn't ASK for the job...sort of like Truman......or even Ford...not a great mind...but basically honest

I thought you were going to ask me who I really want for president.

I'm going to tell you anyway.

I want Gandalf for president, and Strider/Aragorn can be VP.

My God John, are you my emotional twin?

Those poor misguided guys! When Gore did his "walkabout" he looked like he was wearing an iron corset, and Dubya kept trying to find something to do with his feet! he ended up in this bizarre bowlegged "rodeo cowboy" pose. You're right, Clinton could sashay with the best of 'em...probably accounting for all the babes. Oh, and he DID play saxophone.

In a serious vein, I wish the threat of lawsuits was not so obviously hanging above their necks like a sword of Damocles. I suspect we'd get occasional apologies rather than those transparent lies and never ending spins.

Same thing with all the "advisors". Wouldn't it be nice if both the Gore and Bush honchos were allowed to tell the TRUTH today on TV, and say..."Geez, we don't know WHO'S gonna win! We haven't slept in a week...we're frazzled, and our bosses have got knots in their stomachs the size of grapefruits!"

Rick

Rick,

I wanted to say the same about the folk/bluegrass--just didn't want to push the fantasy too far :-). I'd also make allowances for an acoustic jazz event. The soshskyerity thing is a GREAT suggestion!

6. He would also NEVER walk out from behind a podium at a speech, debate etc. Clinton was the ONLY person who could do that well and the rest are so embarrasing they make me cringe.

Well learning how to pronounce "social security" would be a start. "soshscrty" was starting to drive me nuts.

And John...I recommend replacing EVERY ball with a Folk-Bluegrass event!

A TOTAL fantasy...

Regardless of the man's political leanings this is the short list of things I DREAM about a president SAYING/NOT SAYING, DOING/NOT DOING.

1. NEVER start a sentence with "The American people...", as in "The American people want/don't want..."
2. Refuse a photo-op or two--or three--or...
3. Angle for less celebrity, more governing--I don't want a king and I don't want to hear how every news story is affecting the president.
4. A weekly press conference. Ground rules--more answered questions, less speeches. The ability and allowance for the answer "I don't know right now, but I will find out and get back with you" and "I cannot answer that because it affects national security" and, "I will not answer that because THAT is none of the public's business thank you".
5. Replace inaugural ball (at least one of them) with Folk/Bluegrass concert.

Am I the only one with a wish list (non-political)?

John
