Subject: RE: Folk news on Yahoo From: Naemanson Date: 16 Nov 00 - 03:00 PM Two years ago I visited Saratoga Springs on a college tour for my daughter. I tried to get into Cafe Lena's but they were closed that night. The list of coming events posted outside their door was very impressive. There was a similar place here on the coast of Maine. The Left Bank Cafe in Blue Hill hosted some of the greatest names in folk and blues music. I once saw Cheryl Wheeler there. I know Dave Von Ronk, James Taylor, Christine Lavin, Richie Havens and many more have played there. The room holds maybe 50 people and that was after they expanded. Unfortunately the placed changed hands and I have not heard any good reports out of there lately. |

Subject: RE: Folk news on Yahoo From: annamill Date: 16 Nov 00 - 12:38 PM You know, I'm not totally sure about this yet and I said the same thing about the Red Socks winning in '86, but I think Folk Music may be making a comeback! I know it's growing in leaps and bounds in my area. Some of you who came to my gatherings may remember Mike Gilhool who wrote and sang his song about hitting Bruce Springsteen's dog. Well, he came to my house the other day looking for some Sea Shanties to sing at an art gallery exhibit locally. I loaned him my copy of The Boarding Prty and turned him on to the Mudcat DigiTrad. BTW, he mentioned later that he was impressed with the DT, but couldn't find any chords to the songs ;-). I had to tell him that usually they were A Capella, but he wanted some he could play and sing. We were there for his performance and it went very well. He did do Handsome Cabin Boy and Drunkin Sailor. He did others but I cannot remember right now. He expressed an interest in the Getaway next year. He would be a fine addition. Long live Folk!! Love, annamill |

Subject: RE: Folk news on Yahoo From: Jim Dixon Date: 15 Nov 00 - 07:19 PM Here's the clicky: Folk Venue Celebrates Anniversary. Hollowfox: There were 2 things wrong with your web address: (1) It should be "dailynews" not "dailunews". (2) Those should be underlines, not spaces, in "caffe_lena_1". |

Subject: Folk news on Yahoo From: Hollowfox Date: 15 Nov 00 - 06:34 PM I just got an e-mail the other day with news that the Caffe Lena coffeehouse, much loved by many folks, got an article on Yahoo's daily news section. I hope I copy the address right, and I'm sorry that I don't yet know how to transform this into a blue clicky thing. http://dailunews.yahoo.com/h/ap/20001111/us/caffe lena 1.html Yes, there are spaces between "caffe", "lena" and "1". (I hope this works.) |
