Subject: RE: Best wishes, new beginnings From: Jim Krause Date: 27 Apr 01 - 01:54 PM Mrzzy, Nah, the night blindness thing is due to congenital cataracts which were surgically removed back in the dark ages when I was a kid. Even my Mom said I was born forty years too early. (She really didn't mean that in a cruel way at all, just a comment on how far ophthamic surgical technique has advanced since the '50s.) Anyways, the deed has been done, and sometimes I even amaze myself at what I can accomplish. I never know from one situation to another what I can and can't do. I just have to give it a go. |

Subject: RE: Best wishes, new beginnings From: JeZeBeL Date: 27 Apr 01 - 01:38 PM Hey GOOD LUCK Jim. I really hope the teaching job works out. I know how difficult it can be to find a job that you really enjoy and really want to do. I'm only twenty but I'm unemployed at the moment. I was working at the job centre in my town, and I really enjoyed it. I got on with the people I worked with and most importantly I got on with the customers. Good Luck again and have loads of fun. I'm sure evrything will work out absolutly fine. Keep playing!! Emma xxxx |

Subject: RE: Best wishes, new beginnings From: Mrrzy Date: 27 Apr 01 - 01:31 PM I had been just about to post a Keep Us Posted post, but I see you've already updated... best of luck indeed, and if you suffer from night blindness (which is why I try not to drive at night) I have heard that there are remedies available nowadays which don't involve carrots... They will be lucky to have you, if you do get the position! |

Subject: RE: Best wishes, new beginnings From: Jim Krause Date: 27 Apr 01 - 12:58 PM Gosh, thanks everyone. I hardly know what to say. The situation is a little like a fruit basket upset at the social service agency. It's called Independence Inc. There seems to be a pretty serious personnel shortage, and I think the Board of Directors really is serious about putting the situation to rights. As of today's date, the Search Committee has not been constituted, so I don't know when interviews will be conducted. But I'll post a message when I find out all the details. Jim |

Wouldn't it be something if one of those disabled adults is perfectly capable of driving at night and plays a banjo or whatever? Keep an open mind. you will learn at least as much as you teach. Subject: RE: Best wishes, new beginnings From: Rick Fielding Date: 26 Apr 01 - 01:57 PM Absolutely all the best Jim. Don't worry about the driving. I'd be lost without my car, but many working pros don't drive. Taxis, buses, trains and planes, can be written off. You have the desire to spread your music and that's what really counts. Rick |

Subject: Best wishes, new beginnings From: Jim Krause Date: 26 Apr 01 - 01:49 PM What's interesting about this whole thing called the Mudcat Cafe is the level of personal sharing among folks who seem to be perfect strangers. I have been quite impressed by the heartfelt wishes, and expressions of sympathy I have read. I find it a little difficult to extend myself in that way to folks whom I never may meet. But here goes. A couple of weeks ago, a teaching position opened up at a community social service organization in the town where I live. The position is for an instructor in the computer lab. I applied for the job. I hope I get it. I'd appreciate you good thoughts and best wishes. Now for the personal sharing. I applied for the job because I couldn't figure out a way to expand from being a local performer into a national touring act. The catch is I can't drive at night. And when do musicians go to work? At night, mostly, of course. Finding a suitable partner has been next to impossible, for most in fact all of the folks I know have real jobs and really can't take off two or three weeks to go on tour. I think I'd like the teaching gig. I'd be working with disabled adults who are interested in computing. The hours are regular, and the pay is about twice what I ever made working a straight blue collar job. And I do have some teaching experience. So here goes, and wish me luck |
