Subject: RE: ADD: Fred Neil songs From: gillymor Date: 04 Apr 23 - 06:11 PM One of my favorite recordings by anyone, "I've Got a Secret" with some stellar guitar work by Pete Childs, Neil's version of Elizabeth Cotten's "Shake Sugaree". If I'm not mistaken Fred put his name on it. |

Subject: RE: Fred Neil songs From: iamjohnne Date: 30 Aug 01 - 09:16 PM Mark, To find the thread here in the forum, on the main forum page, go to the search and filter Fred Neil then set the other thingy for 60 days back, then it will come up. You asked about why Nilson's recording of Everybody's Talkin" was used instead of Freddie's, it had soemthing to do with his commitment to Capitol Records. To find out lots more about him and the others who he influenced, go to the FredNeil.com and click "Everybody's Talking" It is a forum that was started the day after he died. You would be amazed at who all has posted there. He was certainly an amazing man, I feel privledged to have briefly known him and to have been able to hear him live. He was magical. Subject: RE: Fred Neil songs From: Mark Cohen Date: 30 Aug 01 - 06:24 AM There was a thread not too long ago when Fred died, but I can't find it in the Forum search. Maybe someone else will have better luck...there were some fine reminiscences from folks who knew him in Florida, as I recall. I remember Dave Herman used to play his songs a lot on WMMR in Philadelphia, 1969-70 or thereabouts. I always loved "The Dolphins". What a voice.... Wasn't there some kind of to-do with Fred and the "Midnight Cowboy" theme? I know that in the movie Harry Nilsson sings Fred's song, "Everybody's Talkin'", but I remember there was a story about why they didn't use Fred's recording of it. Aloha, Mark |
