Thank you, everyone! I'll pass on the hot stuff, thank you, Spaw.:-)

Rog is really enjoying this. We didn't have that many, either, but the cold prompted him to pick the few, so...we'll probably only be able to try just one or two of these fine recipes. I'll let ya know!

Thanks, again!

kat

It was clear out day here with the tomatoes and other stuff in the greenhouse and the outdoor tomatoes. The standard answer to the green ones here is chutney but I don't think we have enough to bother with this year - we didn't seem to get stuck with many that didn't ripen.

I don't know if it would work with green tomatoes, but ripe tomato jam is "to die for". Passionfruit pulp added to it is yummy too.

Green tomato chutney? Use about equal quantity of apples (English Bramleys are best) and half amount of onions, boil with vinegar, sugar and spices until thick. I've also used green strawberries as I get a second crop which doesn't ripen.

And I have a recipe for a killer salsa, but only the brave will eat it. You need one Habenero and one Green Chile for every 1/2 cup of tomatoes. Take it from there..........

Mix up some flour and brown sugar in about equal quantities.......Whip a few eggs in a bowl............Slice the metters about 3/8" thick.

Fry up about a pound of bacon......leave the grease in the pan, good and hot...........Soak the metters in the eggs and dredge 'em REAL GOOD through the bacon and brown sugar mix........Throw 'em in the fat and fry them on both sides while you eat the bacon. CANNOT BE BEAT!!!!

Cholesterol.........Out of Sight
Calories............Out of Sight
Fats................Out of Sight
Sugars..............Out of Sight
FLAVOR..............Out of This Fockin' World!!!!!!

I mean though, how often do you eat the things? It's worth it..............oh my Mama, is it ever worth it!!!

Spaw

Dear Kat...

Tho I've never tried it, I've heard that green tomato salsa is good, and my Arkie neighbors used to make a surprisingly good pie out of green tomatoes, using them as you would any other juicy fruit...lots of sugar, little bit of spice, little bit of flour to thicken in necessary.

Sorry about the early cold. Here in Calif. I'm being overwhelmed with late ripe tomatoes...too juicy to dry, and I've already got eNUF sauce...the kitchen looks like a tomato explosion...

Green tomato relish, most cookbooks.
Green tomato pie (can use 1/2 apples) make just like apple pie.
FRIED GREEN TOMATOES!!!

I am going to cover mine with blankets tonight, esp the peppers. NOT ready for them to freeze. Snow predicted here tonight.........now I can bitch about the snow instead of the heat........

It got cold in Wyoming over the last couple of nights. Poor Rog has a few green tomotoes and wants your fried green ta-may-ters recipes, please, along with any other suggestions.

Anyone know of any songs about them?

Thanks!
