Subject: RE: Lyr Req: worm who falls in love with his own From: Jon Freeman Date: 03 Feb 02 - 11:20 AM Jeanie, any chance of you posting the correct words? I'm almost certain my version will have undergone some changes over the years. Re the school books, I have a collection of BBC schools radio pamphlets from a series called Singing Together. Jon |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: worm who falls in love with his own From: Desdemona Date: 03 Feb 02 - 09:24 AM Funny! It has the ring of Swann & Flanders to me; all I know for sure is that Kit Marlowe is rolling over & over & over again in his grave..... |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: worm who falls in love with his own From: JennieG Date: 03 Feb 02 - 02:53 AM I have a copy of the words and tune. It's called "Worm Song" and at the top it says "From Sing a Song by William Clauson and Basil Swift. Reprinted by permission of Reuter and Reuter Forlags A. B. and the Oxford University Press". I remember too that it was recorded by Nina and Frederik many many moons ago. My copy came from a song book published by the ABC (Oz) - they used to have excellent kids' song programs on radio, and the books were published for schools. Unfortunately they have now stopped, but I have a great collection of the songbooks! Cheers JennieG |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: worm who falls in love with his own From: Joe_F Date: 02 Feb 02 - 02:48 PM Earthworms, IIRC, are actually hermaphroditic. Whether they take advantage of the fact, I haven't heard. |

Subject: Lyr Add: THE EARTHWORM TO HIS COY MISTRESS From: Amos Date: 02 Feb 02 - 12:14 AM Had we butt-ends enough, and time, This schizophrenia were no crime; For we could endless grudges prove Kicking and making our ends to move In a world of ends, and endless time Your butt I'd whup, while you kicked mine But at my back, I always hear Argyle Sinuous Dextrous II |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: worm who falls in love with his own From: Genie Date: 02 Feb 02 - 12:00 AM The one I posted was a poem, not a song, and I don't recall the title. Also, I forgot to mention that the lines in italics are ones I sort of made up on the spur of the moment to fit the general rhyme and meter, since I could not recall the original ones. Also, that last line in the first verse should be "If you will come with me to live." (typo)
I guess you could just call it "TheEarthworm To His Coy Mistress" or something like that. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: worm who falls in love with his own From: Jon Freeman Date: 01 Feb 02 - 11:45 PM Opps, the one I gave was called "The Worm Song". I should be able to knock up a MIDI for that one if you wish to put it in the dt. Jon |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: worm who falls in love with his own From: Genie Date: 30 Jan 02 - 10:45 PM I saw this in a magazine (American Girl, I think) when I was a young teen: Come live with me and be my love And have such pleasures far above Those which other woms can give, If you will come with me to love.
Oh, no, this thing can never be |

Subject: Lyr Add: THE WORM SONG From: Jon Freeman Date: 30 Jan 02 - 08:53 PM There is one I sing that as far as I can remember was on the B side of the Nina and Frederik version of Puff The Magic Dragon. I haven't managed to find it using google but here's the way I remember it:
The earth it was damp with the dew of the dawn
Just then as he stared at the sun in the sky
If you'd only agree to a brief rendezvous
Then the trim little worm gave a shake of its head Jon |
