John. I wonder what kind of guitar it was. Did you fold the neck while the strings were under tension.

I will be going to the US in November and I will keep a lookout for such a gadget. I am looking for a travel guitar, but this little octave one is for something else.

I change what strings I put my fingers on about once a week if that is what you mean.

PS Met a very keen Yank jazz guitarist a number of years who had a guitar made with a smallish body, a full sized fretboard - and a foldable neck. If a back-packing instrument is your desire, then this choice was very respectable as a quality tool to play, was somewhat cheaper than the big names. The downside was that string life was dramatically shorter than for conventional use. But we always change our strings weekly, don't we???

I have ordered things from Lark in the Morning and have been happy with the service. I haven't had to return anything and they have a very short return policy. In think you have 3 days to contact them or something like that if you want to return an item. You need to be pretty sure that you want what you order, I think. I also had some questions about the banjo kit I was ordering and it was hard to get any information, but finally did find someone who knew what it was. You might try searching some other sites for the same instrument. I found the same banjo that I ordered at another site.

I am contemplating buying the Octave Guitar from Lark in the Morning. I would appreciate any comments from people who have dealt with them.

Getting the details of the guitar from them is like pulling teeth. Each time I ask three questions I get one answer. Does anyone know about the thing. It is listed in their www site as an "Octave Guitar GUI001"

Two particular questions I have about it are: Where is it made? and Can you use ordinary steel strings cut down to size on it?
