Is it a coincidence that since the Hull contingent started swamping the Mudcat the Hull local authority has plummetted in the Govt league tables?

(I only asked!)

JOhn .. Bassic .. if any of us had the faintest idea what you were on about   . we'd probably be very baffled .. but seeing as least only I don't have the faintest idea then I am merely baffled ... but don't mind me .. I'm only presecription drugs at the moment.

However, last night on the tele' the TV reporter seemed to take a peculiarly succinct relish in enunciating the "A1033 - The ROOOOOOAD to HUU-UUUUULL!"

Why's that do you think?

Traditional west Hull Folk song, collected on a visit to the 3d stand, any Saturday afternoon during Robin hunting season.

LTS said … “I went to Hull once... it was quite nice.”

It reminded me I was once told by an instructor from the UK that when an Englishman doesn't like something, he'll say “It's quite nice.” If he has a strong dislike for something, he'll say “It's quite nice … really.” But if an Englishman really hates something, he'll say “It's quite nice … really, if you like that sort of thing.”

I couldn't confirm the veracity of her remark but I enjoyed the humor.

strange young man?...explain grasshopper... you speak in riddles....

Jim was GREAT... I was on top... well I know my place ...

as for the journey to that fabled land beyond the setting sun... well I am still not sure I can believe in such a place.... although I realise some do believe... and I respect their beliefs... of such beliefs give them reassurance....

Brid Widder - I returned last year - for a brief visit.
Besides making me cry at the thought that I grew up in a place that had seemed huge as a child and now seems somewhat small I got stragely confused. The old escape map was no longer valid. They had moved Rovers ground next to my old school!!!!

I panicked for a short time wondering why and then realised it was probably one of those up and under things - a bit like you and Jim at Saltersgate!!!

By the way did you manage to meet the strange young man inside or outside the pub to pay him?

I know that people have left.... in search of some far off fabled land beyond the setting sun.... if but one were to return.....maybe then we could believe.... but they never do.....

I went to Hull once... it was quite nice. Bloody good chippy by the market....

But I'm a southerner at heart.. even London is too far north for comfort.

Do like the Hull habit of putting all their public toilets under statues of royal persons though.

Not wanting to be unfaithful to all me ol' mates in Hull.....

Head West as suggested along the M62 and keep going into the wild beyond..

Cheshire can be well recommended. I have been here a year and not thinking of leaving..not quite by the M6 route

Yet!!
But ya never know I could be seen heading South sometime

Eeeeeeeeeek!

There is talk (in hushed voices)that the A63 goes into the badlands far further to the west than North Ferriby - and even beyond; to where the earth rises up and touches the sky, and where rivers cascade with clear fast water. Great hardship always befalls those who journey to this place.

SHAKE OFF DULL SLOTH AND JOYFUL RISE

Travel, expand your horizons, broaden those Yorkshire minds. There is a world of wonder out there. Get on the M62, keep going till you hit the M6 (may a bit if renumbering to M60 on the 62 round Manchester). Head south down the M6. Get off at J17, signposted Sandbach. Go into the middle of town, locate ancient Saxon crosses. Admire them. Park by them 9it says no parking but that is not enforced).Cross road into George (I'd have one in the Crown first right next to the crosses actually, the bears better), go upstairs in the George and,if youve picked Tues Nov 26 for your trip, you'll get to hear me and the Boat Band.Plus some singers lying on the floor,it's an old Cheshire custom.
Then go back to Hull, and tell the stay-at-homes "I have seen the future...and it works!"
