Thanks for that...But, you have to admit that the Commercial TV and Radio companies, don't, (for obvious reasons!) normally programme such shows...So, It's probably about other aspects of Willies life, not just his music !

Wonderful news...particularly the Robert Wyatt prog.
One of my all time faves!
Please circulate. As I've said before, maybe this is the way forward for TV in the UK. Praise should be heaped on BBC4 for daring to broadcast what would never get by the mandarins of BBC1 and 2.
I'm working on the World Music awards anyway, so I'll see far to much of it (particularly the cables!!), Onwards and upwards. Suddenly the New Year doesn't seem so bleak.

I mailed BBC4 and the BBC in general, not being sure which went where; and mentioned that those license payers who don't have access to digital channels, but who have helped to pay for the programmes, might like to see them too. On BBC2 perhaps. Forlorn hope, I know.

I mailed them too and got an acknowledgement. It was an automatically generated one, but it did say that all comments &c get circulated on a daily basis.

Interesting little snippet I heard on the radio this morning, though:- the BBC reckon only 4000 watch the main progs on BBC4. Let's hope they all like folk and let the BBC know!

The BBC received the largest ever response for BBC4 programme when the Martin Carthy programmes were first broadcast last year (shown again on Sat 4th Jan). I urge those who saw the folk evening on BBC on 4th Jan, to write to the BBC and congratulate them on a wonderful evening of programmes, and suggest that they should show more of them!

Hello Ducklings!!
When the Carthy concert was shown last year (c/w a documentary about his life) It prompted one of the biggest reactions (Positive!) that BBC4 has had. I presume that this is why they repeated the prog.
It's not yet going to be a regular event, as far as I know...but why not fire off some E Mails to the BBC thanking them for at least starting to do something?
I'm sure that there is a wealth of documentary material lying on various shelves out there, which would be of interest. (And incidentally, probably cheap!)
Of course, all of these programmes should be on BBC2 so that the majority of viewers can watch them, but as I've said many times before...It's a start, and an improvement on Fame Academy!!
Also, keep listening to Late Junction, Andy Kershaw, and World Routes on Radio 3, and Folk on 2 on Radio 2.
Even R4 did its bit over Christmas with Georgina Boyes prog about the Sheffield Carols.
I'm actually quite optimistic about Music programming on the BBC. And any helpful suggestions would be a good thing.
So, get those E Mails in..!!

We enjoyed what we saw of the Carthy Concert - we didn't get the box set up until part way through.

Ah...You can be cunning.
My Digi box feeds the Video, witch then feeds the TV, so I can be recording something off Mr Dig, but, watching just the boring terrestrial channels.....Scart Hell I know...
and if you want to get the sound into your Hi Fi.....took me several pieces of paper to work it out!
Why not go to ASDA and buy another Vid for £50??

I watched the Cambridge coverage until Joe Strummer (RIP) had done "I Fought The Law" at which point my wonderful wife offered to watch "Casualty" on the inferior upstairs telly. As I had just won 47 quid on the bonus ball I insisted that she watch it on the "posh" downstairs telly so's I could come up here and put this message on the 'cat. Loved the Cambridge prog.
PS Is there a clever way of enabling me to video digital stations without a degree in electronics ???

Just to let (Mainly) UK viewers know that on Fri 10th Jan, there are a couple of progs worth a gander.

2030 - 2100 A doc on the song traditions of Northern Ireland..
(How they'll do that in half an hour beats me!)
2100 - 2300 Highlights of last years WOMAD Festival in Reading UK, including Ozamatli, Rachid Taha, Misty in Roots among others...
Glad I got a Digi box now...!

And don't forget the repeat of the Carthy Concert tomorrow (Sat 4th)
(there's already a thread about that.
Shame it's not more widely available, but, at least a few things are happening over here
