Thomas, I don't know where you are, but there are 5 major Pacifica stations in the country, and at least a dozen affiliates. A Google search should bring them up. Pacifica was founded over 50 years ago by people opposed to war, and continues to be a beacon for free speech. One of their best daily programs is Democracy Now. They'll bring you news and viewpoints that no mainstream media source will touch these days. Cheers, Michael |

I confess that, even though I'm a practicing Orthodox Christian, I tend to shy away from anything with the word Christian in it. That word and those teachings are so abused today, I tend to run fast in the other direction whenever it's mentioned. I don't agree with the point of view in the Economist either but I know there are some conservatives here who might be interested and at least they seem to have integrity and some insight. I just filter out their philosophy. I could also supply a long list of activist links but we've been talking about news and information in this thread. Even when I agree with their point of view, I think the activist links tend to be less than objective in their reporting of events. I prefer trying to find out what really happened before deciding on it's political significance. - Mark |

I should have mentioned that it's also one of my favorite sites. I personally prefer news without too much of a political slant either way. It's meaty rather than strident (Stridency is why I stopped taking Z Magazine) and has a wide range of commentators and political cartoonists, mostly liberal but on occasion others, regulars as well as guests, including Richard Reeves, David Broder, Ellen Goodman, Molly Ivins, Ralph Nader, E.J. Dionne,Jr., Eleanor Mill, Bateman, even Joe Lieberman. $49.50 per year, and as I said, it's a weekly of about 30 pages. |
