Subject: RE: BS: Talk to God lately? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 31 May 03 - 06:50 PM It used to be the left luggage office for London Transport. Mr Holmes did actually work there, but he soon got cheesed off and moved elsewhere. LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: Talk to God lately? From: alanabit Date: 31 May 03 - 05:26 PM It actually exists now! It didn't in the nineteenth century, but they have built a pub there now and called it 22B (was it 23A?) Baker Street. |

Subject: RE: BS: Talk to God lately? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 31 May 03 - 02:55 PM Unusual that... they normally make all TV & Film phone numbers start with 555. We used to get a lot of calls for ABTA - Association of British Travel Agents - it was quite amusing hearing all the tales of woe the people would regale me with, despite me telling them it was a private number and I had nothing to do with travel... Subject: RE: BS: Talk to God lately? From: Little Hawk Date: 30 May 03 - 04:25 PM I know what you mean, Michael...I spent 3 fruitless weeks once in the 70's trying to call up Mao Tse-Tung and tell him what a lousy job I thought he was doing, and never reached the man once!!! I decided after that that he didn't really exist, and I have yet to be proven wrong in that assumption. It really feels good to know this kind of thing, and realize what fools most people are, believing in these mythical entities. You and I should get together some time and share amusing anecdotes about it. - LH |

Subject: RE: BS: Talk to God lately? From: alanabit Date: 30 May 03 - 03:58 PM There was a hit record in the charts here in Germany about twenty years ago called "Skandal Im Sperrbezirk" (Scandal in the Red Light Area). It was about a spectacularly talented lady called Rosie, whose fictional phone number was given in the song. Inevitably there were men who wanted to find out first hand if Rosie really existed. It turned out to be the number of a local government department (Minstry of Agriculture I think). This is Germany - and they were NOT amused! |

Subject: RE: BS: Talk to God lately? From: Clinton Hammond Date: 30 May 03 - 03:40 PM Obviously you haven't seen Bruce Almighty Michael.. In the movie Jim isn't God... In the movie Morgan Feeman is god... Jim Carry just takes over for him for a while... I hear good things about the movie from all kinds of people... |

Subject: RE: BS: Talk to God lately? From: michaelr Date: 30 May 03 - 03:31 PM Boy, there's about six different levels of idiocy at work here -- from the idea that Jim Carrey is God, to the idea that you could telephone someone who does not exist. Sometimes I despair of mankind... Cheers, Michael |

But don't ask me what I think of you. I might not give the answer that you want me to..." Who? Bonus points for the year:-) Cheers DtG |

Subject: RE: BS: Talk to God lately? From: JennyO Date: 30 May 03 - 02:28 PM There was a song sung in the sixties by an Aussie guy named Lionel Long, called "Telephone to Glory". When I looked it up, I found it is older than I thought. Have a listen! |

Subject: RE: BS: Talk to God lately? From: Little Hawk Date: 30 May 03 - 12:20 PM That IS funny. I talk to God regularly, but it never occurred to me to use a phone to do it. Most of the talking I do with God is in the form of silent thought or contemplation, rather than the spoken word, but I make an exception to that on occasion. Any time a popular movie or song features a phone number, this sort of thing happens. The worst thing, though, is if a local pizza delivery place has a number that's just one digit different from your own... - LH |

Subject: BS: Talk to God lately? From: GUEST Date: 30 May 03 - 11:22 AM I found something in the news this morning I found to be a bit humourous...people have been trying to call God by dialing the same number shown in the movie Bruce Almighty...the story can be found by clicking here. |
